Wedding Day Astrology: Dave & Regina Letterman

with 2 comments

Here’s the story in David Letterman’s own words of how he married his girlfriend of 23 years, Regina Lasko, on March 19, 2009, @3:00 pm mst, at the Teton County Courthouse in Choteau, Montana.

Checking the Lettermans’ Wedding Day Astrology chart we see that Sun (male) is @ 29Pis26, and Moon (female) is @ 12Cap09, Sun in 8th house, Moon in 5th house.

The aspect between Sun and Moon is 3rd quarter, the ‘crisis in consciousness’ phase.

And as you know, 29 degrees of any sign is considered a critical or crisis condition. Hmm…Sun straining toward the Aries Point of Fame and Prominence?

Yet this Water-Earth blend of energies is the ‘mud, glorious mud’ combo and is one of the most practical and nourishing of Sun/Moon combinations indicating a supportive partnership.

The Lettermans’ marriage, as represented by Sun Pisc/Moon Cap, is one of self-perception, discreet ambitions, and philosophical humor. This is a dutiful and dependable blend of reserved romantics, with acute sensitivities to the outer world.

Compassion, sympathy, and charitable impulses are mixed with a sense of the fragility and tragedy of life. Tenderness + taciturnity, romance + strong work ethics are keynotes of this combo.

The Lettermans are private people (as Dave has always told us) who take family responsibilities seriously; they don’t suffer fools gladly, and may adopt a puritanical attitude when loved ones let them down.

Whether this applies to Mr. Letterman’s true confession on air last evening (that he had had affairs with staffers and that an attempt was made to blackmail him by a CBS News producer who is now under indictment for extortion), I have no idea, but I will tell you this since a known time (3:00 pm mst) has been given: asteroid, Niobe (‘the grieving mother’) is at Midheaven (the Goal Point of any chart.)

Regina or Dave’s mom? Both perhaps? Plus, Harry, and Dave was surrounded!

As you probably know, their son Harry was born in November 2003, and Mercury (young person) in the Wedding Day chart is @ ’19Pisc’ whose Sabian Symbol is “A Master Instructing His Pupil.” Considering Dave’s references to fatherhood in his older years and his own ‘dumbness’, I suspect that it really is Harry who instructs Dad many times.

Plus, as a child reaches school age, many parents who have yet to plunge into matrimony go forward with wedding plans to become more a traditional part of the community.

Capricorn is the staidest of signs, but the Pisces Sun in this combo tends to waver over taking on too much responsibility. Yet one doesn’t want to think the extortion situation could have had anything to do with their decision to marry, so I’m voting for Harry’s influence, especially since I’ve heard nothing of the time frame of the affairs or when the blackmail attempt was made.

If the attempt was made prior to March 19, 2009, however, there are two midpoint pictures on the difficult side in the Wedding Day chart:

Neptune/NN = Jupiter: exploiting others or laying oneself open to exploitation by others; great hopes placed upon a partnership.

Having affairs at work could certainly be described here; and the word ‘dumbness’ comes to mind.

And: Mars/Jupiter = Neptune: a hopeless relationship; unfaithfulness.

Now there are several lovelier pictures in the chart, but those two do stick out a bit considering his on-air confession of last evening.

The shadow side of the Sun Pisc/Moon Cap blend contains a tendency toward pessimism and worry, secretiveness, and defensiveness.

(Dave said last evening in preface to his confession that he’s always motivated by guilt.)

Let’s see if Sun Pisc/Moon Cap’s ‘Images for Integration’ throw a ray of light upon the Letterman marriage:

‘An old freighter chugs toward the port, bringing in the goods…A famous actress leaves her estate to the Actors’ Pension Fund.’

(‘Sun Sign-Moon Sign’ by Charles & Suzi Harvey.)

I was amused to read these Images because the ‘port’ reminds me of Letterman’s ongoing visual jokes such as: did you see the harbor today? to the audience, then shows a doctored photo of the Statue of Liberty…for autumn, her torch became an uplifted rake for leaves, etc.

And the second image may remind us of large paychecks (as may the first image), the entertaiment business, and the charitable, sympathetic impulses as mentioned above. Also of Dave’s ongoing jokes about Bernie Madoff and the many pension funds he ruined. Madoff’s bilkings seem really to have stuck in Dave’s craw, and sometimes it helps to laugh about tragic things, doesn’t it?

Sun Pisc/Moon Cap is shared natally by Percival Lowell, Samuel Pepys, Philip Roth, Dina Shore, Nina Simone, George Washington, and Anais Nin, who wrote
(as if in honor of the Lettermans’ wedding):

“The only abnormality is the incapacity to love.”

Now within the next year or so, transiting Saturn will be opposing their Wedding Day’s Sun, which is a period of time when not keeping promises and failing to live up to one’s responsibilities in the past come back to haunt.

Pluto, squaring the Sun on March 19, 2009 (the willful ‘might makes right’ aspect) will still be squaring the Sun in 2010, which may only indicate Dave’s power in the entertainment world, and perhaps a touchy ego. Yet I think it’s Saturn opposing the Wedding Day Sun that may cause much relationship stress, and/or the possibility for health problems from overwork.

Of course, Sun SQ Pluto may relate to heart concerns, too, if the frustration level and temper aren’t addressed, so please take it easy, Dave.

Well, hopefully this Wedding Day Astrology Reoirt isn’t too intrusive, and it does give me a chance to belatedly send out Happy Marriage Wishes to the Lettermans, and my best to Harry, a very very fine fellow!

  1. Thanks for your eloquent and compelling analysis of this wedding chart! Dave Letterman and Regina were married within 4 days of Bruce Willis, Natasha Bedingfield and Danica McKellar, who all have very similar wedding charts (though the Lettermans’ was the only one with a Pisces Sun). I looked at them in the NCGR’s memberletter (http://geocosmic.org/publications/mletter_0509.shtml) and I’m very curious to see how they all fall out as the years go on. I wish them well, but it does look like a challenging wedding horoscope to me, as this Letterman incident seems to be proving. Does anyone have Regina’s birth date?
