Moon Art for a Monday

Moonlight Path

Moonlight Path

Monday is the Moon’s day and since the Aquarian Solar Eclipse is fresh (occurring here at 2:55 am est), I thought a shout-out to Luna on her day was a good way to begin the week.

Drawing: Prismacolor oil, Rexel Derwent watercolour pencils (dry) on black paper; perpetrated by Jude Cowell, natal Moon in Pisces, Sun in Capricorn.

So now, for all of us who were born with Sun in Capricorn-Moon in Pisces:

Sun Cap-Moon Pisces (Earth-Water): scientist and poet; a pragmatic dreamer; an imaginative organizer; tough and tender; dependable but private; both practical and dreamy.

Self-reflection makes this combo serious and solemn at times but allows deep insight into others’ plights. A natural humanitarian with a penchant for mystery, this blend makes for one who isn’t always sure if she’s the cat’s meow or something the cat dragged in.

Quietly bringing order out of chaos is a talent (which astrologers recognize as a helpful trait!), and there’s a capacity to give form and substance to imagination.

Weaknesses include: fear of the unknown, a pathetic tendency to carry other people’s burdens, and a tendency to lose confidence through negative thought patterns.

The Sun Cap-Moon Pisces blend is shared natally by:

Benjamin Franklin (an astrologer, as you know), Paul Cezanne (one of my top 3 favorite Impressionists), Elvis Presley (well, as a kid I liked his music), J. Edgar Hoover (ee-euww!), Sandy Koufax (saw him play on TV watching baseball with my Dad), Ava Gardner (now there was a beauty), Keith Thomas (author of ‘Religion and the Decline of Magic’), and J. R. R. Tolkein (read ‘The Hobbit’ when it was brand new but couldn’t get through all of The Trilogy, it wore me out!  Sorry.)

Let’s hear a peep from Ben – here is one of the more practical bits of advice from Ben Franklin – it’s one of my favorites of his quotes:

‘Dost thou love life? Then do not squander time, for that’s the stuff life is made of.’

And Astrology is what brings the element of Time to the table!

Images for Integration:

‘A wine collector uncorks a rare vintage to celebrate a success…A child builds a sandcastle of reinforced concrete…Bilbo in Tolkein’s ‘Lord of the Rings’…’Bathers in a Landscape’ by Cezanne…Elvis Presley’s ‘Blue Suede Shoes’. (‘Sun Sign-Moon Sign’ by Chas & Suzi Harvey.)

The ‘sandcastle/reinforced concrete’ reminds me of his help in founding America, ya know? Ideal-idea of freedom into manifestation  and all that, with Uranus, planet of revolution and rebellion,  discovered in 1781 – between the American Revolution and the French Revolution.

So it was Uranus’ creative spark (Plato’s Ideal) poured into Saturnian form, circa 1776, and voila! a New Atlantis: America.

Well, thanks for taking a meander with me down a Moonlight Path on the  Moon’s Day. Hope you enjoyed yourself!

See my combo of Sun Cap-Moon Pisces in action as I attempt to blend realism (botanical fish drawings) with imaginary  surroundings (seen within their favorite dreams) here:

What unaspected Uranus is up to

A planetary energy unaspected isn’t hooked into its surroundings and most people are aware that Uranus is disruptive, rebellious, and leads to unexpected happenings–even to lightening bolts from out of the blue.

Unaspected planets can ‘run away’ with things as they direct the play from behind the scenes; plus, eccentric Uranus can stir any pot to an explosive boil including the quake variety such as we’ve seen yesterday with an island off the coast of India (with strong after shocks today.)

Actually, “shock” is a word Uranus often conjures within our brains as we wish heartily that we could lasso this unruly, now unaspected, maverick! And politically the radical reformer may be busy putting secret plans into place in honor of our November presidential election, too…setting the fuse, ya might say.

So do let astrologer Julie Demboski inform you on general and personal terms some of the things our current unaspected Uranus in Pisces, sign of the Collective, is up to:

Thanks, Julie, I’m expecting the unexpected here!

new art: Urania Meets Saturnia

Urania Meets Saturnia

Discovery of Uranus, 24 Gemini, and political reformers like George Bush

Aali’s Astrology has an interesting article written by the excellent Jeff Jawer on the discovery of the outer planets, Uranus in particular:

Uranus was discovered in Bath, England by William Herschel in 1781…just between the American and the French Revolutions. Its discovery degree is 24Gemini+ and the article gives some info concerning this degree’s turning up quite often in the charts of writers, political reformers, and astrologers.

Yes, Uranus can be a real system buster, all right, and chaos is another word often laid at its door..’its’ because it’s the only planet named after a place: the ‘sky’ or ‘heavens.’

As you know, George Bush was born with North Node conjunct Uranus which indicates mixing with unusual groups or, more specifically, ‘political associations advocating reforms’ according to Reinhold Ebertin in his book, ‘The Combination of Stellar Influences.” Bush’s conjunction is in the 19–22 degree range of Gemini…quite close as outer planets go.

Astrologers Alice Bailey (Sun 26Gem) and Dane Rudhyar (Jupiter 28Gem) are examples as are FDR and wife, Eleanor: his Mars is at 27Gem and Eleanor’s Saturn clocks in at 24Gem.

So in a sudden spree of disclosure (appropriate for Uranians such as ourselves) I shall admit to having natal Uranus 27Gem+ Rx with Secondary Progressed Uranus 26Gem. You may as well know now as well as later.

Jan 17: Benjamin Franklin turns 302

Are you prepared for Ben’s birthday this Thursday? Got the fireworks and the cake yet?

You can get more ready at Stars Over Washington where I’ve published something of an article on Franklin’s natal chart and on his Solar Return 2008 which has links to a certain 2008 presidential campaign of a certain candidate…guess which one?

Ben Franklin left this mortal coil on April 17, 1790–in the midst of his Uranus Return which occurs (for all who should live so long) around the age of 84.

Due to retrogradation, there are three dates for Franklin’s Uranus Return to natal degree, 6Leo52 Rx, conjunct US natal North Node…the Uranus/NN pair = political reformist groups:

1. Aug 24, 1789

2. Feb 11, 1790

(died April 17, 1790)

3. June 9, 1790.

With Uranus’ discovery on March 13, 1781, and Freemason Franklin’s astronomical (and what we now call ‘astrological’) interests, he was probably aware of this quirky, disruptive planet during his lifetime. Uranus is considered to have close connections with the natal chart of America…that independent and freedom-loving Uranus!

You know–like Americans used to be.

“There are two lasting bequests we can give our children: One is roots, the other is wings.” Teaching children values and giving them the opportunity to excel is essential to good parenting. However, I feel I must also provide my children (and myself) insight into the ones who came before us: our ancestors whose lives and stories have shaped us into who we are.
