US Solar Return 2013 Report now available

On America’s 237th Birthday July 5, 2013

by Jude Cowell

After weeks of concentrated preparation, the first topic in my series of Stars Over Washington Reports is America’s Solar Return 2013 Horoscope which is ready for electronic delivery as a printable PDF!

This year, America’s actual birthday occurs just after midnight on July 5th and our Solar Return 2013 Horoscope (based on the US ‘Sibly’ natal chart for July 4, 1776 at 5:10 pm LMT) is chocked full of interesting portents for our national solar year which ends, of course, in July 2014.

If interested in receiving your own copy of this enlightening PDF Report (19/20 pages; $1.99US), please click the above link to Stars Over Washington where you’ll find a snippet of the SR Horoscope and a ‘Buy Now’ PayPal link at the top of the sidebar of SO’W.

Now as you know, a Solar Return for America automatically provides us with our natal Sun in Cancer, but this year the SR Moon falls in the Mercurial sign of Gemini. Therefore, our solar year will have characteristics of a Sun Cancer-Moon Gemini blend, a misty Water-Air combination of energies. Here are a few details concerning this blend:

Sun Can-Moon Gem has a strong sense of family which supports well the typical ‘family values/mom/apple-pie’ sentiments held by most Americans. This is a self-reflective blend that can be moody, sociable, sympathetic, and emotionally expressive.

Chatting away is to be expected with Gemini in the mix, yet the defensiveness and security concerns of Cancer are also factors. Wit and comedy are appreciated though over-stimulation causes a scattering of our energies, plus, nervousness and emotional immaturity are issues during the year though keen perceptions of others are available to us as well.

Now how about an apt quote and some good advice from a famous American who was born under the influences of the Sun Can-Moon Gem blend?

“Happiness is a butterfly, which, when pursued, is always beyond our grasp, but which if you will sit down quietly, may alight upon you.” Nathaniel Hawthorne

Wishing Many Happy Butterflies to you and to America!

Inauguration 2009’s Solar Return chart 2010

After returning from my trip to Raleigh, NC for Christmas holidays, I wanted to post something useful concerning the presidency of Barack Obama, his first year as leader of the free world, and the upcoming year ahead. How’s that presidency gig going?, we have a right to ask.

What better than a Solar Return – his presidency’s first birthday – when the Sun (‘leader’) returns to its degreee in the Inauguration 2009 chart?

If you’ve landed on this blog before, you may know that my Stars Over Washington feed is found in the sidebar to your left so you can always check out my last post or two at SO’W.

Or if you wish to view Inauguration 2009’s Solar Return 2010 chart with details more directly, you may simply click here and you’ll be whisked away by technology’s magic to a different landscape where politics and politicians squirm under the lens of Astrology as written just for you by only me.

Now you don’t have to speak astrologese to read my Political Astrology articles (or anyone else’s), yet of course it helps. However, I do try to write them in English for those who don’t speak the language so try it, you might like it! And…

Happy New Year, Everyone! Jude

Wedding Day Astrology of Tiger Woods

‘Under an Arch of Flowers @ Sunset’ and The Round-About Husband:

Well, I’m awfully late boarding the online Tiger train of comments, suppositions, and gossip but it occurred to me that if any couple in the news ever warranted one of my Wedding Day Astrology Reports (which publicly I do not offer any longer, please don’t ask!) it would be our wayward Woodses.

Yes, in America, we like ‘build ’em up heros’ that we can then watch fall, usually with much undermining from the press who often started the big idol build-up in the first place while we-the-public colludes.

But with Mr. Tiger Woods, talent is the architect along with Dad, Earl, who arrived at his son’s wedding in a silver Rolls Royce – a perfect ‘vehicle’ for a Svengali figure.

Yet it looks to be Mr. Woods the Younger who bears the lion’s share of the debit for the mess he’s in…we can’t blame dear old Dad (or Mum) for our mistakes forever, can we?

Therefore, since you know that Astrology teaches us that how something (or some person) begins is how it will end – the end is in the beginning but not necessarily in specifics, yet ends have elements of their starts within them which describe something intrinsic about their characters – then you won’t fuss overmuch if I say that ‘as fireworks over the water put the pretty bow on the wedding’ (a nuptial ceremony being the beginning of the official, legal, and spiritual partnership of Tiger and Elin) the dust-up Tiger’s philandering has caused can well be termed ‘fireworks.’

For ‘the water’ we have only to look at the horoscope chart with a wa-a-ay out-of-bounds (OOBs) Moon – +28:00 – in Cancer, sign of Home, Nurturing, Mother and Children. She is at the base (Ic/4th house cusp, not necessarily the same measurement) so blending the female Cancer with male Libra, I’ve titled the chart, “Children and Social Events.”

When Moon is the only OOBs planet we see deep emotional security; on another level this Moon OOBs may also represent Elin Nordegren being from another part of the world than Tiger.

She wanted family (which she now has for certain – lovely little children!) and he wanted a pleasureable, social, charming and calm relationship full of Aphrodite-Lilith and Bacchus-Eros-Cupido (see: marked in red are the main asteroids and points I work with when it comes to Romance, Sex, and Intimacy.)

He may have married a Mother archetype (Cancer Moon), not very good for future romantic propects within the marriage unless both partners are okay with it.

But diplomatic Libra can be a cool character quite detached even while desiring partnership, or the ease of partnership, for life’s balance.

‘Fairness’ is a constant concern for Libra whose favorite mantra may be, “That’s not fair!”

Well, here’s a CNN write-up of the Woods-Nordegren nuptials of Oct 5, 2004 on Barbados, West Indies. The article helpfully includes the time the pair said, “I Do” @ 5:40 pm (21:45 GMT) so I’ve set up a Wedding Day Astrology chart for Tiger and Elin Woods who are being represented astrologically by the Sun (male principle) and Moon (female principle.)

Also I shall include a few notes on their Wedding Day’s Solar Return chart of Oct 5, 2009 as transits in aspect to the Oct 5, 2004 chart.

Please pardon, but not knowing the ceremony’s exact location I couldn’t resist using ‘Holetown’ (golfing reference – naughty you!) as the wedding’s location – Queen Elizabeth of GB is head-of-state of Barbados and it’s quite a small island anyway.

Of course, the physical oomph level is represented by Mars in Libra (desire nature wanting union) and Venus (attraction principle, here in picky Virgo, sign of the pure, fertile virgin and dedicated server of the flame, or hearthstone.)

Sun Libra/Moon Cancer (Air-Water = ethereal mist; mind + emotions):

Sun Lib/Moon Can can tend towards pouting, self pity, and carping when others don’t ‘look after them’ in ‘the right way.’ And Cancerian energy is very self-protective, in fact, it can be emotionally (Water sign) touchy (Mars in Cancer is the touchiest – Saturn is also in Cancer, a difficult placement for the Father archetype – plus, their Wedding Day’s Solar Return for Oct 5, 2009 has Mars 24Can30 conjunct SR 2009 2nd cusp – $$ – near SR 2009’s South Node 26Can55. Past actions and behaviors (SN) are haunting the marriage, for SR 2009’s Sun/Moon midpoint is @ 24Can15 and being triggered by contentious, phallic-glyphed Mars.

Hot-to-Trot, My Honey

The testosterone-filled fellow (Mars) is troubling the waters of his marriage (Sun/Moon) in a veil-over-wife sort of way (Neptune’s deceptions.) A wife’s honor is seen to be at stake, her love cuckholded. No veil is large enough to cover such a round-a-about husband’s actions and behaviors now and I sincerely hope he gets professional aid for his addictions…a change of direction from their present direction on the public course would be if she is uncovered as duplicitous as well. Then all bets are off.

Yet as their Wedding Day chart shows, Romance was wafting through the air along with desires for stability and status in the world (Capricorn @ Mc), both factors indicating that the current embroilment may not have to be make-or-break as long as both partners can bend. But the SR 2009 chart (and more recent transit charts), when compared to the Wedding Day chart, show an uphill battle if reconciliation is wanted.

The beautiful ‘ethereal mist’ of this relationship has heated to ear steam temperature as domestic scene vows were discovered to be taken for granted, broken. With the SR 2009 chart at Full Moon (202 degr 33 mins) phase, Elin had probably moved on from Tiger by then so she must have been dissatisfied for some time before the scandal/s broke in the press and flooded our collective awareness.

SR 2009’s Sun/Moon 24Can15 = SR 2009 Mars 25:30 = marriage; urge for children; a sexual union; the need to impose one’s will on others; becoming more self-reliant; pushing others for quicker progress; anger; a focus on strength. (‘Any-all-or-none’ may apply; today using Ebertin and Munkasey.)

In tandem is the Wedding Day’s Sun/Moon midpoint at 25Leo08 which was triggered by the SR 2009’s Mars/Saturn midpoint, a harsh blend of frustrated stop-go energies, diffcult work, and possible loss for the relationship (Sun/Moon.)

Sun Lib/Moon Can is a blend in need of tremendous amounts of love; close relationships are important here (but as we know, too many ‘close relationships’ haunting the marriage can merit the Knell of a Closing Ding Dong.)

Lib/Can’s over-romantizing prevents clear assessments by either or both partners (pre- and during the time there is a union), and I suspect that this has occurred with Tiger and Elin who were so very romantically wed on a dreamy island. Having one’s rose-colored romantic glasses ripped off by Saturn’s realism is a common factor in many break-ups, isn’t it? And few partnerships can live forever upon such a romantic pedestal especially with extreme wealth and fame causing their own problems, delusions, and ravenous appetites.

Of course, a tendency to see oneself dimly rather than clearly may be the beginning of the problem for this couple for if we don’t know ourselves, how can others know us honestly? And having a dim view of oneself makes self-destructive sneakiness more possible to rationalize away as retaliation takes over while fluffing silken pillows so enticingly.

So it’s the disconnect between the two (mind + emotions = consciousness and unconsciousnesss) where a fizzle can end all communications – astrological Mercury’s many mental functions affect this (and everything else to boot.) And as noted, the Lib/Can combo describes a ‘mind + emotions’ blend of energies and the Wedding Day’s luminaries square (90 degr) one another indicating blockages and obstacles to overcome….hard work ahead, yet do-able.

He, remote. She, emotional. The more out of touch Tiger has been all along with his true feelings, the more hurt ensues for his home-loving wife.

If you can view the chart closely enough, you see that Jupiter, Mars, and Sun are snugged around Fixed Star, Vindemiatrix, keywords: loss of partner, widow/widower; sorrow in relationship; depression…and also: mysticism and the occult.

Now transit Saturn in Dec 2009 has come along to square Wedding Day Moon and oppose Wedding Day Sun, bringing loss, restrictions, and delay for both partners. This is a very depressing influence on the marriage particularly because a husband doesn’t seem to have taken his responsibilities as seriously as fathering small children – or a marriage vow – call for.

As I type (Dec 18, 2009) tr Saturn is between Wedding Day’s fortunate Mars/Jupiter conjunction…Mars/Jupiter = Saturn: difficult decisions; a termination of relationship. (Ebertin.) And when Saturn conjoins Jupiter, some part of what’s been gained through the auspices of generous Jupiter must be given back (Saturn.)

Tr Pluto affecting the Wedding Day chart shows violent tendencies and accidents, possibly injuries – Pluto opposing Moon, squaring 2004’s Mars/Jupiter conj (see chart above); plus, tr Pluto trining Venus (big money on the chopping block), and sextiling (60 degr = opportunity) Uranus, showing generational changes in society and a chance to morph one’s social and financial circumstances into totally new conditions. (Bye bye, Tiger?)

Sun Lib/Moon Can indicates a partnership that tends to play out childhood emotional scripts – never a good idea unless both partners are aware of it and into sussing it out; this relates to the Mars/SN behaviors already mentioned; the phrase ‘past sexual partners or unions’ comes to mind so perhaps a romantic straw has broken the sexy camel’s back; and the ‘old flames’ sparking the ‘straw’ has lighted the fireworks of an explosive break-up.

Now as you know, Sun Lib/Moon Can can be a moody blend and given their 24 vs 28 years’ of age at marriage – he at his ‘be more responsible’ Saturn Return (28 – 30), and she at or near a Jupiter Return cycle (12 yrs x 2 = 24), we have a Jup/Sat influence, a moody blend of planets in themselves relating to the liver, and thus to purification. An upset liver can bring unpredictable, upsetting moods, and of course, alcohol and other drugs can soon reach toxic proportions for the liver, sometimes sooner than we realize.

Purification is needed (a constant need for us all; thus, ‘the liver’ which relates in mythology to Uranus and ‘stealing fire’ which here may serve as a euphemism for stolen kisses.)

Sun Lib/Moon Can in relationships can show a proneness toward being overly accomodating which then purports to justify possessiveness and manipulation; feelings are vulnerable, so their ongoing public fiasco cannot be easy for the couple’s 10th house Chiron at a critical degree (’20Cap’), a place of blindspots and wounds – and posited right there in the most visible house of any chart, the 10th of Public Standing and Status.

Transiting NN (the path; destiny; fate; future; a joining quality) is now pointing toward their 10th house Chiron (‘impulsive pursuit of authority and status’ on the ‘road to fame and fortune’ – Nolle) which in Capricorn indicates the Father/Mother polarity of the 4/10 axis of Home vs Career and Fame and Tiger Woods’ ‘authority in his career’ which is suffering mightily because he’d climbed so high and had so far to fall. A Cap Chiron deeply values power and status and tends to measure self-esteem through the eyes of others; this Chiron’s aim is to prevail no matter the challenge yet there’s a fear of losing individuality and identity through the status quo – conquering time is the goal with Chiron in Capricorn, the sign ruled by timekeeper Saturn.

Well, since I’ve just paraphrased Richard Nolle from his excellent book, ‘Chiron’, I shall quote an excerpt from him now on a Cap Chiron because of one little word he includes – I know you can spot it:

“Somber of thought and disposition, (Chiron in Cap is) like the man who was chased by a tiger until he lost his foothold and fell off a cliff.”

Uh oh.

Mr. Nolle goes on to conclude that this man’s “tenacity stems from a full awareness that time and chance happen to us all even in this, the best of all possible worlds.” From which I tentatively conclude in Tiger’s case, So many lovelies, so little time…?

Still, Chiron in Cap is the ultimate survivor, so let’s hope the Woodses’ relationship benefits somehow from this stabilizing factor, painful as it is just now.

As you see in the chart shown, there’s Moon in Cancer near the home-loving Ic, making me believe that Elin Woods is the partner who doesn’t care much for the fame part of the deal being something of a homebody; Tiger loves to shine in the outer world, of course, or at least he did, in a more positive way than this blow-up may allow for at present.

(If either of you reading this post has a link to an analysis of Tiger’s natal chart, please supply in a comment – let’s discuss!)

Sentamentality is one of the tendencies of this particular Sun/Moon blend; positively there can be much concern for others, intellectual curiosity and abilities, and adaptability in the face of obstacles. But has Tiger used up all of Elin’s emotional adaptability? And perhaps it’s the other way round as well?

FYI, let’s consider a list of famed folk who share natally the Sun Lib/Moon Can blend and crescendo this post into an apt and tuneful quote written by one of them:

John Kenneth Galbraith, Graham Greene, Olivia Newton-John, Rona Barrett, Annie Besant, Eleanor Roosevelt, and the excellent Paul Simon, who wrote:

“Losing love is like a window in your heart, everybody sees you’re blown apart, everybody sees the wind blow.”

Well, there’s a lot more to the chart/s but this is gracious plenty peeking into a partnership that has met, after all, deep and private sorrows. And so my hopes are for the best to come about for the entire Woods and Nordegren families – but most especially for the loving children of this Sun Lib/Moon Can marriage gone astray.

Most of the Sun/Moon details here are from ‘Sun Sign-Moon Sign’ by Chas & Suzi Harvey; most of my Wedding Day Astrology articles are in the blog sidebar Pages and are alphabetically listed under ‘Wedding…’

Solar Return 2009 chart of President Obama

Would you like a gander at President Obama’s Solar Return 2009 chart with details?

My Political Astrology blog seems to display chart images more clearly (in my browser at least) so I’ve published it there for you.

What I neglected to include in my post is the Sun-Moon blend for the president’s Solar Year which begins August 4, 2009 (at 3:33:46 pm edt in Washington, DC, though he may be elsewhere on his birthday – but it won’t affect the SR Moon’s sign) so I will add a few details here:

Sun Leo-Moon Capricorn, Fire/Earth:

proud of achievements; ambitious; a practical visionary; organized and purposeful; the authoritative leader; hermit and socialite; has a deep respect for traditional values; devoted to loved ones; courageous; independent; impatient with imperfections; a need to be in control.

With the Sun as conscious mind and Moon as the unconscious, this blend’s ‘Images for Integration’ are:

‘A prince organizes his father the King’s weekly schedule…An orphan rummages in the attic and finds an old genealogy book which maps out the family tree of her long-lost, forgotten royal ancestors.’

(‘Sun Sign-Moon Sign’ by Charles and Suzi Harvey.)

Hmm…wonder if the president will produce (if he can) a credible birth certificate during the year in an attempt to finally silence his critics on the issue of his possibly unAmerican birthplace?

You may wish to check this out from The Washington Independent.

This blend in his 2009 Solar Return chart gives Mr. Obama certain traits to work with for the upcoming year, and is shared natally by:

Lucille Ball, Yves Saint Laurent, Napoleon Bonaparte, Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf, and Arnold Schwarzenegger.

And here are two quotes which may very well flavor August 2009 to August 2010 for the president and for America through him, both from the Emperor Napoleon:

“We must laugh at man to avoid crying for him.”

“Religion is excellent stuff for keeping common people quiet.”

US Solar Return 2009: midpoint pictures

It will soon be time for America’s birthday celebration we fondly call Independence Day, so I’ve posted America’s Solar Return 2009 using and displaying both the US ‘Sibly’ natal chart, and what I call the ‘Franklin’ chart, the time of which is based on astrologer Benjamin Franklin on the US 20-dollar bill which shows in the background the clock on Independence Hall in Philadelphia marking ‘2:21’ (or 2:22)…am or pm.

I’ve used the 2:21 PM lmt chart for my SR 2009 post, yet there is much to be said for a chart set for 2:21/22 AM which gives Uranus 8Gem55 rising. But since Uranus was unknown in 1776 and was not discovered by William Herschel until 1781, it would probably be the Universe playing celestial synchronicity with us, rather than prankster Ben insisting on signing such an important document in what to me seems the middle of the night (or early morning, if you prefer!)

Another possibility, however (and I’ve not read this anywhere, I’m just imagining it now for you) is that as Franklin and the others declared (treasonous) independence from Britain, they were desirous of keeping their heads and wished to be secretive in order to be safe from British spies or officials.

Hmm. Then the Universe may have conspired after all to have the planet associated with freedom and independence, the one that disrupts the status quo – Uranus – on the Ascendant of America’s birth chart, hence: 2:21/22 am lmt.

A rising Uranus on any Ascendant indicates coping ability with whatever comes up – perfect! With the messes politicians now have us embroiled in, perhaps I’ll start using the 2:21 am chart for America just to see if it helps with anything.

As the president said, Try something. And if it doesn’t work, try something else.

Plus, in the 2:21 am chart Mars is in first house of Identity and the US seems to be awful scrappy, aren’t we? Always looking for a contest and an enemy and creating them if and where they didn’t previously exist.

September 11, 2001:

The 2:21 am chart has certain important links to the planets of a massive event with a well-known time of occurrence: the first attack on the World Trade Center, Sept 11, 2001.

The Sibly chart is often used now by some who didn’t before because 9/11/01’s Pluto crossed the Ascendant and restrictive Saturn was on the Decendant – the Saturn/Pluto opposition whose clock began ticking at their conjunction of Nov 8, 1982 – the Reagan era. He signed the Garn-St. Germain Act on Oct 15, 1982 which opened the door to the current financial collapse.

Do I believe the loosening of regulations made possible by the Garn-St. Germain Depository Institutions Act and 9/11/01’s financial effects are related?

Let’s just say, I knew it was You, Reagan.

So, the speculative 2:21 am chart flips this transiting pair on 9/11/01 to transiting Saturn conjunct ASC, tr Pluto conjunct Descendant indicating loss and restrictions for America (Saturn to ASC) by foreign, secretive, and transformational forces (Pluto in Sagittarius.)

Works for me especially with a Gemini ASC resonating with the Twin Towers and their trade/commerce activities (Gemini’s Mercury = trade, commerce; the Twins of Gemini.)

But for the purposes of my US Solar Return 2009 article, I have used the Sibly (5:10 pm lmt) chart and the 2:21 PM chart from July 4, 1776 to calculate the current Solar Returns.

This results in differences between the Solar Return 2009 charts because the Sun returns to two spots in the zodiac: 13Can13 in the Franklin version, and 13Can19 in the Sibly.

And now here are the midpoint pictures formed in both Return charts starting with the Franklin version – you’ll notice that this version has much less “action” – only one picture – than the Sibly SR though both have the traveling Chiron-Neptune-Jupiter trio which is rising in the Franklin SR, but in 11th house of the Sibly Return.

~As always, midpoint pics operate in an ‘any, all, or none’ manner and may respond later on to transiting planets that trigger them particularly if they’re on a SR angle.

And as you know, a SR chart is ‘good for’ a year (from birthday to birthday) so it’s a bit like having a new birth chart for a year to work with (see article linked above for more info) yet Return charts are always read in tandem with the natal charts from which they issue.~

‘Franklin’ SR 2009:

Mercury/Mc = Saturn: one’s point of view comes under scrutiny by authority figures; abandoning one’s former aims; meditation; solitude; separation; melancholy.

‘Sibly’ SR 2009:

Pluto/ASC = Jupiter: an imposing and powerful personality; a large gain; generosity; a favorable turn of circumstances; receiving a bounty; drive to major success.

Plu/ASC = Neptune: potential scandal; otherworldliness; peculiarities; power run amok; away from the middle of the road; disappointments; suffering from the actions of malicious or bad people within the environment; an awkward and unfortunate situation.

(Neptune for the masses and Jupiter for wealthy bankers and politicians?)

Moon/NN = Mc: emotional relationships with intensified ego involvement; initiation of a soul-union.

Sun/ASC = Venus: harmony and affection; a love of humanity; peace.

Mercury/ASC = Mars: negotiations and discussions; quarrels; emphasizing one’s own ideas; the urge to attain success; deciding on the best course of action in collaboration with advisers.

Saturn/ASC = Mercury: change of environment; getting into trouble through others; a journey; others influencing one’s thinking; wanting to be alone, to get away from it all.

And on a joyous note, here’s a picture formed with US natal Jupiter (5Can54/56) as focal planet for the year of America’s Solar Return 2009 and operative in either chart (Mercury 2Can36/51):

SR Sun/Mercury = n Jupiter: optimism; broadening one’s horizons and mental focus; successful travel; speechmaking; uplifting thoughts about religion; good connections; a good thinker, orator, and organizer; protection and sponsorship.

Well, light the grill, pass the mustard, and Happy 233rd birthday, America and warm felicities to all my fellow Americans!

Are you your Obama’s brother?

Astrology Mundo has a great astro-analysis about the rumor goin’ round about Barack Obama’s brother George living small, they say, in Africa, a circumstance which is being touted by his opponents as if it’s a new negative against the Dem candidate.

The word ‘desperate’ comes to mind, or perhaps it’s the steady drip drip method of political attackery where they hope something will stick by November.

Thing is, Obama identified something like 8 half brothers and sisters in his book and George is one of them.

Well, at least Obama knows who the 8 are. Are you completely certain you know who yours might be?

You’ll find a discussion of Obama’s Solar Return too at:

George Washington’s Solar Return 2008

On Feb 22, 2008, George Washington’s Solar Return (SR)–when the Sun returns to the degree of birth–occurs at 8:48:50 am LMT when set for his place of birth, modernly called Wakefield, VA.

In his 2008 Solar Return is a YOD (Finger of God) pattern indicating a crisis situation in need of adjustment between Neptune 22AQ09 and the SR ASC 22Ari34 which point to focal planet, the Moon 20Vir34, in the 6th house of Work, Service, and Health.

The combination of Neptune/ASC indicates much sensitivity, impressionability, and a tendency to lay oneself open to exploitation–thus serving as a willing tool for others’ interests. There is lack of resistance or stamina, moodiness, and a proneness to being easily influenced by others (and the current presidential campaign rhetoric comes to mind.)

The Moon (‘the People; the public’ in a national chart) influences the physical body, and is placed in Virgo, sign of health, in the 6th house of health. Of course, healthcare rhetoric and arguments abound now during the prez campaign, so hopefully that’s the inference here in this, the Solar Return chart of the Father of Our Country.

Worse may be imagined such as epidemics, this year’s flu innoculations aren’t covering enough of the strains we’re experiencing, so therefore many Americans are ill now. Yet hopefully this will be all that this sensitive YOD entails in the infection department.

Plus, this Moon could be telling us something about the only female candidate in the race, for Virgo is also the sign of the dedicated worker–with a plan for improving healthcare!

~Often I do look at historical charts and ‘update’ them by progressions, Returns, transits and such, then sassily utilize the results as markers for what’s up with modern America, and that’s what you’ve fallen into here.~

Neptune/ASC = Moon: states of emotional disharmony; emotional suffering; a dependence on environmental influences; great sensitivity; open to hurt; easily deceived. (Tyl; Ebertin.)

In his “Dynamics of Aspect Analysis,” Bil Tierney gives some info on Moon as focal point in a YOD pattern:

inner emotional development is in need of sensitive adjustment;  can be caught up with disorganized, distorted impressions from the past that are in need of objective clarification;  potential emotional maladjustments are seldom evident on the surface and instinctual responses to impressions from the environment can be out-of-tune with normal expectations; an emotional trauma from the past (attacks of 9/11?) interferes with proper decoding of the emotional messages received from others.

This vulnerability makes it difficult to deal with security issues in the here and now because acting in a self-defeating way is triggered by faulty assimilation of these impressions from the current environment.

This focal Moon being in the Mutable sign of Virgo makes acting decisively all the more problematic, for Mutable signs are known for their tendency toward vacillation (and some recent polls have indicated voters changing their support between candidates, but during such a long campaign season that’s to be expected regardless. Perhaps this YOD merely highlights it.)

If wisely handled, this focal Moon can bring a destined change in life direction when a new path may open up which permits basic needs to be attended to–and I can’t think of a better outcome for the common good, and for America, my place of birth–and the only nag I’ve ever backed in the race.

Plus, Washington’s 2008 Solar Return occurs during a Moon Hour, too, so he may be expecting much publicity this week in honor of Presidents Day. He’ll probably get it, too.

Yet with transiting Saturn opposing his natal Sun during Saturn’s current retrograde period (off and on–and Saturn is in VIRGO), we know that failures to live up to promises or to accept responsibilities in the past may come back to haunt America–and, as representative of our nation–the current president, George Bush, whose leadership, honesty, and integrity will continue to be challenged and doubted.

This may also refer to any prez candidates whose records are now being more closely scanned for discrepancies between word and deed.

Saturn opposite Sun is a time when breaking rules (Saturn) or “doing whatever it takes” to gain “at any cost” can result in the loss (Saturn) of something more valuable in the end. Respect-for-the-rules Saturn frowns upon such Machiavellian behavior.

This particular transit may also bring along health concerns, since the Sun represents vitality and Saturn brings repression and may be a factor in cases of overwork and strain…like prez campaign junkets with their sore throats and under-eye bags packed for the next whistlestop’s speech.

Frustrations and delays are the flavors of the day with this Saturn transit, so as things slog along for the rest of 2008, don’t say George Washington didn’t try to caution you, oh politicians…for our first George was born during a Saturn Hour after all!

note: in my Sidebar you’ll find a Page with an image of Washington’s natal chart and a link to chart details at Stars Over Washington.

Mars turns Rx in Cancer; Cheney’s 2008 Solar Return

Yesterday I posted on the Nov 15 Rx of Mars at 12Can27, conjunct MC (Aspirations; the Goal; Public Status; Career Point) over Washington here: http://starsoverwashington.blogspot.com/2007/11/nov-15-mars-rx-on-usbush-natal-suns.html  if you’d care to take a look.

The current Mars Rx period is emphasized for George Bush and for the US since it falls so closely to US/Bush natal Suns.

Jan 30, 2008 brings the direct turn and station of Mars at 24Gem05, while the Sun 10AQ25 conjuncts Dick Cheney’s natal Sun–it’s his birthday.

Cheney’s 2008 Solar Return–a chart calculated for the moment the Sun returns to natal degree, minute, and second (dependent upon a correct birth time which Cheney’s seems to be) is effective for one year and for Cheney actually occurs on Jan 31 at 2:43:19 am est when set for the White House.

The Solar Return (SR) Moon shows what personal and domestic fluctuations and stimuli to expect for the year and is also a health indicator, if applicable. Adverse aspects to the SR Moon show a lack of positive response from others–a lack of popularity–and Mars direct will be inconjunct (150 degr) his SR Moon:

For Cheney, 2008 brings a 12th house Moon in Scorpio, and as you know, a SR Moon in Scorpio indicates a new element in the domestic scene brought on by major modifications or transformational processes. There may be a removal of some unwanted element after last year’s stresses (2007) so relief may be felt concerning revisions which have been implemented.

There may be renovations in the home (or ‘lair’? thought he already did that! But perhaps this refers to the White House) and shared resources issues may surface during the year. Scorpio may indicate a need for surgery as well. “Removal” and “revisions” sound like surgery to me–perhaps before the end of 2007 or in Jan ’08.

A SR Moon in the behind-the-scenes 12th house brings more self-reflection and obscurity to the already reclusive VP. He’ll be getting emotionally recharged for a new cycle of activity–which again underscores the surgery mentioned above because the 12th house is a place of hospitals (and prisons!).

A 12th house SR Moon also indicates erroneous judgement which has serious consequences, something he mastered long ago, in my opinion.  (Identifying Planetary Triggers, Celeste Teal) and Scorpio is the sign of spies and intelligence agencies, too.

Back to Mars’ Rx cycle:

So when will cantankerous Mars leave his shadow phase–when the feisty, warring fellow re-covers ground he’s travelled and goes forth into ‘new’ territory…?

Here’s his schedule with degrees and Sun/Moon positions concerning this particular Rx/direct period (times are for Washington, DC, est):

1. Rx 12Can27: Nov 15, 2007, 3:24:28 am; Sun 22Sco35, Moon 22Cap09;

2. direct 24Gem05: Jan 30, 2008, 5:33:19 pm; Sun 10AQ25, Moon 18Sco20;

3. leaves shadow phase, turns direct 12Can27: Apr 4, 2008, 2:57:20 pm; Sun 15Aries, Moon 27Pis18.

Cancer, sign of home and security issues has seen gracious plenty of Mars already with fires and such. Mars to natal Sun (of Bush and the US) gives a surge of vitality and a push to get ahead. Direct confrontations and physical challenges appear, and courage and determination are easy to call upon.

Principles may be demonstrated in some form during this period, yet ego gratification may be a primary motivating factor. Strains to heart and spine, and head injuries are typical of this period, especially with Mars’ connection to sharp instruments (surgery.)

(Will Bush receive a brain transplant? Just kidding. Anyway, conscience transplants haven’t been invented yet.)

Mars in Gemini, sign of communications, messages, and young people may indicate web-based concerns, as well as declarations of war, and air travel problems. Mars likes to disrupt, so the ‘net may be disrupted, perhaps concerning Congress’ actions on the Net Neutrality issue. It even occurred to me that the draft will be in the news–and on the war table–once again.

Well, after Apr 4, 2008, Mars moves ahead yet still has over half of Cancer to negotiate. On or about Mar 5, ’08, Mars reaches World Point 00Can00, the point of the pre-9/11 Solar Eclipse degree.

Mar’s cycle or orbit is appr 2 years in length so he’s been there before–late May 2002, and appr May 8, 2004. In fact, for the attacks of 9/11, Mars triggered this Eclipse degree by opposing it from Capricorn.

The Pre-Natal Solar Eclipse of 9/11/01 to which I refer is in the 3 North Series, at “00Can” which Brady’s Predictive Astrology tells began Oct 10, 991 (OS) at 22Gem06–near the upcoming Mars direct station.

3N: an over-excessive Series; main theme of news involving young people and/or that transforms a situation; information causes worry and obsession; there’s a desire to undertake large plans or activities which turn out positively as long as one doesn’t overdo things.#

Well, my mama always said: never go where you’re not invited, never stay where you’re merely tolerated…and some say the US ‘overdid things’ with her invasions of the Middle East and her continued occupation, a sentiment I share, for one reason because withholding power demonstrates it and impresses others much better than misdirecting it can ever do.

Yet the chickenhawk neocons seem quite happy with the chaos they’s created–they certainly scrambled the oil markets to what I assume is to their own advantage.

Yes, war profiteering is old as the hills but still shows a lack of conscience which is tragic for the collaterally-damaged populations of the world. My flower power generation used to say: what would happen if ‘rulers’ threw a war and no one showed up?

Isn’t it beyond time to find out the answer? Toss all dictators in a ring and let them have at it…which would serve them ‘righter’ than they’ve served us.

“There are two lasting bequests we can give our children: One is roots, the other is wings.” Teaching children values and giving them the opportunity to excel is essential to good parenting. However, I feel I must also provide my children (and myself) insight into the ones who came before us: our ancestors whose lives and stories have shaped us into who we are. This is my journey; these are their stories…
