A rectified natal horoscope for Dracula

And Dracula’s Vampire Legend Continues

by Jude Cowell

Have you checked out the excerpted Dracula article at Neptune Cafe? You’ll see the horoscope of Bram Stoker’s first public reading of his novel Dracula in London on May 18, 1897 at 10:15 am UT. Victorians thrilled to the dark psycho-sexual tale as many readers and film goers do today.

Curiously, the chart shows the Moon (the public; publicity) conjunct Count Vlad Dracula’s natal Sun @23Sag32, and Dracula’s natal Ascendant (2Sco22) conjunct the reading’s IC (Foundation; The Drain–here, of blood) which places Dracula’s natal Descendant @2Tau22 conjunct the reading’s MC (Midheaven = The Goal.)

There are other links between the horoscopes as you may see by glancing at the reading’s horoscope and the rectified natal horoscope of Vlad Dracula, below. Rectifying horoscopes by the dates of known life events (when a birth time is unknown) involves many hours of concentrated research and the chart I publish here is the version rectified by master astrologer Noel Tyl.

Prince Vlad Dracula (born Vlad Tepes–tsep-pesh) on December 7, 1431 @3:18 am LMT Sighisoara, Romania; ASC 2Sco22; 2nd house Sun 23Sag32; 3rd house Moon 18Cap19; MC 10Leo53:

It’s an Hour of Saturn which squares Uranus from its own sign of Capricorn (sign of law and government); Neptune in royal Leo, sign of the natural ruler, is atop the chart affecting his Aspirations and Goals; the Scorpio Ascendant is ruled by impaling Mars, sub-ruled by powerful Pluto, planet of death, decay, and ruthlessness. And it’s life-and-death matters for Scorpio, as you know.

Chart-ruler Mars makes one Ptolemaic (major) aspect, an opposition to Neptune @18Leo21 Rx (3A48) in 10th house of Public Status, and wherever Neptune is located, things are ‘other than they appear.’ Plus, Neptune is associated with glamor, films, and acting and I’m certain that you, dear reader, have seen one or more ‘Dracula’ films in your day!

His high-profile Neptune (10th h) may also pertain to centuries of legends and myths relating to Dracula which were greatly promoted early on in the West by Bram Stoker’s novel even though in Romania, Dracula is seen as a protector and ruthless warrior on behalf of his people. Impaling was his preferred method of execution, yes, a Sagittarian note (the Sag arrow impales) in his psyche, and according to Noel Tyl’s *reading of his chart, Dracula was apparently sexually impotent which may certainly cause obsessive violent behavior in strong-willed men who live in the brutal times and places that he did.

Historically, I refer to the era of the Fall of Constantinople, the Crusades, and other religion-infused (or infested?) battles and challenges with other entities such as the Catholic Church engaging in just as heinous, cruel, and sadistic methods of torture and death as did Dracula.

That thousands died at his hand is historical fact. The natal chart emphasis on Scorpio-Sagittarius denotes power, personal conviction, and a defensiveness that rationalized his actions via religion. The Venus-Neptune opposition (Mars conjunct Venus brings Venus, planet of vengeance, into Neptune’s rationalizing net of illusions and deceit) indicates a dangerous imagination, and his Mars-Neptune opposition shows that his motives, even if genuine, always seemed suspicious to others. Besides a tendency toward self-delusion, a lack of honesty is also shown here, and the Saturn-Uranus square signifies political (be strong at home to be feared abroad was his motto) and occult activities which supports the prominent Neptune and his Mars-Pluto Scorpio Ascendant.

Of note as well is a Fire Grand Trine between Sun, Uranus, and Neptune which gave him the defensiveness this closed circuit of energies tends to give, plus, an innate self-sufficiency as a ‘law unto himself’ that allowed him to do just as he pleased while obsessed with commanding respect from others.

One awful story is told of his obsession with ‘cleansing his realm’ when he gathered beggars, the infirm, and ill people of the streets into a banquet hall, fed them lavishly, then burned down the barricaded building ‘to improve the health of his State’.

(If this cruelty reminds you of how the austerian vampires of Washington DC are behaving on a grand scale with their cuts to Meals on Wheels, Food Stamps, and other social programs for America’s needy, I’m in full agreement with you.)

Dracula’s father and Dracula himself were initiated into the Order of the Dragon (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Order_of_the_Dragon) (‘Drac’ = dragon) of European elitists and as such considered themselves to be noble knights protecting Christianity and the Cross (he converted to Catholicism later in life but it’s said that this was to impress the King and pave the way for his regaining the throne of Romania–see? Always suspicious of his motives!)

In fact, the peasant class of his day gravitated toward the occult implications of his membership in the Order of the Dragon (dragon = devil) so this attributed, pre-Stoker, to the historic view of Dracula as demon and monster. Not that he wasn’t!

So if you click to enlarge the horoscope, perhaps you can read a few basic notes I penned on including an out-of-bounds Moon (OOBs) which denotes that from birth, the mother-son relationship was faulty-to-non-existent (plus, the Moon-Saturn conjunction in strict Capricorn.) Would having a loving, affectionate mother around in his character-building years have made Vlad a warm and cuddly adult?

Well, what do you think?

The Saturn-Uranus opposition of July 26 2010

If you wish to view the horoscope and read its details concerning the next opposition between status quo Saturn and progressive Uranus, perhaps you’ll try today’s post at Stars Over Washington.

The Saturn-Uranus opposition becomes exact on July 26, 2010 – just after the Full Moon of July 25 and both days have flavors of Sun Leo-Moon AQ as detailed below. This is a Fire-Air ‘live wire’ combo of energies indicating abundant ideas and a zeal for persuasion yet may be long-winded and bombastic.

Living at a fast pace and shunning boredom marks Fire-Air so don’t be surprised if people – even you – are on-the-go even more than usual over these two days!

The Sun Leo-Moon AQ blend is one of vivid imagination, idealism, and truthfulness. Extreme individualism is indicated along with friendly, broad-minded, and theatrical vibes.

This can also be a romantic, flamboyant, and chivalrous combination that seeks to see the best in everyone; outrageous plans may surface under this blend, plans which have little practicality to them yet an autocratic ‘rightness’ may be in play.

Beware of inflexibility, intolerance of or from others, and arrogance within your environment.

Images for Integration: The chairman of the board raises his glass to his able colleagues…The king of a large, prosperous empire invites everyone to his wedding.

(‘Sun Sign-Moon Sign’ by Charles & Suzy Harvey.)

Or, a daughter’s wedding? Now that last Image in particular sounds much like former President Bill Clinton at his daughter Chelsea’s wedding which is said to be set for this very time frame at the fabulous Astor Mansion in upstate New York!

Even limelight-hogging father-of-the-bride Bill has said that Chelsea’s wedding is all about her, not him…well, duh!

Astrocytes Communicating, the video!

While Uranus is conjunct the Aries Point I’ve taken an opportunity to catch up on NPR’s excellent feature concerning Albert Einstein’s brain: in what tissues might his genius be found, his cognitive functions and imaginative faculties? Can they be found?

Actually, in neuroscience some headway (sorry) in the study of neurons has been made since the 1980s when the tissue sampling really began, thanks in a smashing way to the great man whose brain was stolen by the guy doing the autopsy; the Professor died on April 18, 1955.

Ostensibly, his imagination, creativity, and genius have been under the microscopes of various neuroscientists through the years and naturally advances in knowledge have been forthcoming.

Yet Einstein’s brain did not ‘test positive’ for having extra neurons, but his gray matter did show an abundance of two glial cells: astrocytes (“astro”!!) and oligodendrocytes – who knew, right?

‘Glial’ means ‘glue’ and until this scientific discovery, which is being brought again into the mainstream of collective awareness while Uranus (‘creative spark of genius’; The Awakener) conjuncts the Aries Point (where the Sun is on or about March 20 each year; AP = a World Point of Manifestation), no one knew that astrocytes were ‘communicators’ in the brain, passing messages from one neuron to the next – and in a Uranian ‘flash’, too!

They were assumed to be the glue holding cells together. Suckas!

Now there are Medical Astrologers who could give the Science Boys a heads-up on the where-to-look department if they have any more questions of that nature, and for all I know, Astrology is secretly used in a lab or two, here and there.

Albert Einstein was born with his planet of thinking, communication, and the senses, Mercury, in Aries. In his school days, Albert, born with Sun in fuzzy Pisces, was considered a daydreamer in class and had a rough time for it gazing out windows and all and being inherently and imaginatively receptive to anything and everything.

So if anyone should want to ‘spot’ Einstein’s childlike, highly creative imagination, his sense of fun, and his all-embracing connection to the eternal All and All of the Universe, then you might begin with his Mercury in Aries, sign of the pioneer, who, like the brash and bright young fellow on The Fool card in the Tarot deck (-0-) steps whistling off a precipice into the mysterious unknown.

During Einstein’s lifetime, the thrilling adventure of seeking the unknown provided emotional support for his Moon in mutable Sagittarius, sign of The Seeker. Fairy dust acrues to the sandals of those with the Moon, The Divine Child, in the magical sign of The Quest.

Whether such tendencies can be identified in brain tissue is beyond me.

Oh, and Einstein had a close conjunction of Mercury and stabilizing Saturn; his Mars and Saturn are aiding one another bwo mutual reception (in one another’s signs – Mars in Cap – efficient actions that waste no energy – and Saturn in Aries, which has a Mars-Saturn vibe of its own.)

In other words, Albert could work and concentrate deeply for long periods of time (Mercury-Mars-Saturn; and early schooling only got in his way!) yet his Chiron/Neptune conjunction in Taurus (the builder, architect, gardener, preserver of values) shows a deep and inspirational creative capacity and visualization talent which really manifested in the world once his Saturn Return was completed and its effects ingested internally.

Still, even an Einstein must have a container (Saturn) for his genius (Uranus) so it’s best to have an aspect or contact between them if you want your genius to form successfully on the worldly, physical plane….in the ‘real world.’

In AE’s natal chart there is an inconjunct (150 degr, but here with about a 4-degr orb between Aries and Virgo) between Saturn and Uranus. The inconj is an aspect indicating a universal imperative for adjustments of the square-peg-in-round-hole variety of brain teasers. The aspect gives a need for flexibility which Einstein seemed to learn more easily in work environments than in his relationships. Working on one’s own is a good way to express such quirky aspects from within one’s psyche.

Having only one’s Moon out-of-bounds in the natal chart indicates a deep insecurity formed in infancy due to a faulty maternal connection, and mutable Sag energy can ‘rare up’ upon occasion – for Albert in the realm of touchy emotions.

Well, this is an on-the-spot thing I’m composing here but I shall leave you with an important and pertinent midpoint picture found in the nativity of Albert Einstein between the ‘grand spirit-speculation’ pair of Jupiter and Neptune, both planets creative as can be, and with their midpoint sitting directly upon Einstein’s planet of thinking and communication, the planet which on the physical level rules the body’s motor nerves:

Jupiter/Neptune = Mercury: an active, intense imagination (you don’t say! ;p); rich powers of perception and visualization (tell me more…); the gift of inspiration.

And his Mercury is in a creative Fire sign (Aries) with another inspirational pair in contact: an out-of-sign or dissociate opposition between expansive Jupiter (again) and, you guessed it – creative genius and brilliant scientist, Uranus, the revolutionary of ivory tower fame.

As you know, Jupiter and Uranus will meet in Great Conjunction in a few days (June 8, 2010; #2 of 3) at Aries Point (00Ari18) and NPR’s current feature on Einstein’s brain is a part of that global, collective scenario with a scientific background that’s being brought to your attention!

Now Presenting: NPR’s story with an all-too-brief, intriguing video of astrocytes communicating when they’re set off by a drop of neurotransmittor added to the dish.

Don’t turn away for a moment for the effect is sudden, electrifying, colorful, and magnificent so snag yourself a surreptitious viewing if you haven’t!

For I suspect that Einstein himself would dearly love to have seen (Mercury: the senses) this video now available decades into the future! And futuristic sky god Uranus (Ouronos) would be quite pleased as well as it electrically darts between those brain neurons messaging its mercurial information.

Check out the man: born March 14, 1879 (NS); 11:30 am; Ulm, Germany (rated AA in the old astrodatabank program.) I neglected to mention that for intellectual prowess and universal interests, having natal Jupiter in Aquarius doesn’t hurt in the least. jc

UPDATE Feb 11, 2012: it seems curious to me now that Mercury was a main focus in this post written in 2010 because of Einstein’s sudden realization that Isaac Newton’s work on Mercury’s deviated orbit (which made a flower petal pattern) would aid him in proving his General Theory of Relativity–that Space curves after all! jc

Saturn-Uranus opposition exact Sep 15, 2009

Update April 26, 2010: yes, Saturn and Uranus are facing off this very day @ 28Vir46 Rx (Sat) vs 28Pis46 Direct (Uranus)…in fact, at the moment of this typing!

(You may notice a smidge of repetition from my original post in this Update…sorry, but some things bear repeating!) Now back to Saturn opposing Uranus:

Their next exact (partile) opposition will be on or about July 26, 2010 @ 00Lib25 Direct (Saturn, conjunct US natal Midheaven in the Sibly chart) and 00Ari25 Rx (Uranus); Uranus to US natal Ic/4th house indicates unstable home conditions (including in the ‘homeland’) and longterm cycles of activity begin or end while Uranus in in 4th house.

Plus, new, progressive or disruptive elements suddenly enter the environment, both in our personal lives, and on the national scene.

Of course, the other end of the brittle Saturn-Uranus duo is Saturn to US natal Mc, as mentioned above, and we experience the restrictions, accountability issues, and extra responsibilities which accrue when Mr. Realism visits his favorite abode, the 10th house of Career and Public Status, where the Lesson-Bringer naturally rules.

Besides the angularity and thus the importance of this transit to the US natal chart, America will soon be starting another new cycle of Saturnian things as described by her Saturn Return which will be a three-fer this time, @ 14Lib48, on or about:

1. Dec 3, 2010;
2. Mar 22, 2011 Rx;
3. Aug 28, 2011

Honor Saturn’s teachings and Saturn will honor you!

My original post begins here:

What a find! Not having much Astrology blogging time recently due to Art stuff, I was thrilled to find that the wonderful Donna Cunningham has published an article by Lynda Hill on today’s exact (partile) opposition of the two antithetical planets, status quo Saturn and progressive rebel Uranus.

Oppositions are always about relationships and, unlike squares which can blind side us, leave room for adaptations and adjustments. Yet this pair of planets can be quite brittle if their lessons are resisted. And both are of a cold quality.

Lynda’s specialty, as you know, is the Sabian Symbols, so you’ll want to check out her analysis of Saturn-Uranus’ opposition degrees at Donna’s blog, SkyWriter.

Saturn opposite Uranus is telling us to Let Go! says Lynda, of all the things that hold us back. They will be partile again in January, April, May, and July 2010, when Saturn will be @ 1 Libra, Uranus @ 1 Aries.

‘1 Libra/Aries’ puts their opposition upon America’s natal Mc/IC axis, the Career and Public Status polarity in our Sibly chart (00:53 Lib/Ari) and will occur during our US Saturn Return.

Accountability, anyone?

Saturn to Mc is a time of increased status since in western Astrology we say the 10th house is Saturn’s natural abode (Capricorn is the 10th sign); responsibilities increase as well. Not blaming others for past mistakes is a must, however, for best outcomes.

Yes, America’s natal Saturn is in its sign of exaltation (Libra) so perhaps with current attempts by government to straighten out the mess our previous slackness has plopped us in, perhaps more improvement will be obvious by July 2010. Saturn to Mc is a great time to correct one’s direction, if need be.

Our legal system may be involved as well (Libra’s ‘Scales of Justice’), and relationships may become stronger in the wider world (00Ari/00Libra are World Points of prominence where global events may occur – also 00Can/00Cap, points which make up the Cardinal Cross everyone is blogging about these days.)

As a nation, we have abused our position of authority in the past (Saturn), so facing our culpabilities and bucking up to difficult tasks more realistically are our only chances for real change with Saturn at Mc.

Yet the fly in the ointment may be Uranus to natal Ic, the Foundation of the country and natal chart, with the 4th house of Domestic Scene, Roots and Heritage. Mars rules there for America.

This transit in any chart relates to disruptive, unstable situations concerning the Home (Ic = cusp of the 4th house.) In a national chart this points to the domestic scenes of indivduals, and to the ‘homeland’ in general.

Long-term cycles of endeavor may be altered abruptly or ended entirely; the number of refugees from loss of homes or other catastrophes may increase, sorry to say.

My hope is that with stable Saturn at Midheaven, Uranian disruptions at Ic may be balanced at least in part by Saturnian control by government – hey, wait a minute – all my grousings about a ‘new world order’ make that a fretful proposition!

Yet more control (regulation = Saturn) of the markets on Wall Street would be a good thing. Still, if the Saturn-Uranus opposition on US natal Mc-Ic leads to a NWO take-over, I’m going to be really po’d. Aren’t you?

Okay, I’ll hush about it for now.

Please don’t let my NWO grousings here dissuade you from checking out Lynda’s insightful analysis with info from her marvelous book, ‘360 Degrees of Wisdom’ which I highly recommend and use myself.

US Mars Return Aug 12, 2009

Wednesday, August 12 is more than the day the Perseid meteor shower peaks, it’s also America’s Mars Return for 2009.

In Astrology, Mars represents energy, action, initiative, motivations, and desires, and ‘his’ cycle or orbit is approximately 2 years in length. The god of war is naturally of import in any nation’s chart so making note of America’s Mars Returns every couple of years can yield information on our direction and goals for the period the Return chart is in effect – until the next Return to natal degree.

Blocks and obstacles to our national desires are shown through squares (90 degr), oppositions (180 degr), or other difficult aspects such as semi-squares (45), sesqui-sqs (135), inconjuncts (150), or quindeciles (165.)

Of course, with America we have several natal charts to choose from, thanks to astrologer Ben Franklin and the other Founders who didn’t see fit to make plain the exact moment of the signing of the Declaration of Independence which would have aided future generations of astrologers. (The last signatures, if memory serves, were not snagged until August 1776, so there’s that little complication, too.)

One clue, however, is Ben’s portrait on our money which shows the clock on Independence Hall in Philadelphia marking ‘2:21’ or ‘2:22’ behind Ben and his enigmatic smile – but is it A.M. or P.M.?

Apparently it’s A.M. since a chart set for this time (LMT, Philadelphia; July 4, 1776) shows Uranus, revolutionary planet of freedom and independence, rising with a Gemini Ascendant. This ‘Franklin’ chart definitely serves as a symbolic chart, imo, and restless, fad-oriented America’s well-known fascination with youth is described by Gemini rising, sign of the Eternal Youth.

(So pass the botox, Y’all! Just kidding. I’m a kidder.)

Plus, as I have previously stated here and elswhere, Uranus conjunct ASC gives excellent coping ability with whatever comes up ‘unexpectedly’…one of Uranus’ favorite words, along with ‘revolution’ and ‘individualism.’

And yet…the US ‘Sibly’ chart (5:10 pm lmt) seems to resonate well with subsequent events such as the attacks of 9/11/01 – tr Pluto to ASC, tr Saturn to DESC.

What to do since a Return chart needs an accurate birth time to be accurate itself?

Looking at the Franklin and the Sibly Mars Returns, there is no difference in the date of the 2009 Mars Return: August 12, Wednesday. Hours/minutes vary, of course (because the times of the charts on which they’re based vary), which gives different cusps and house placements; additional midpoint picures may apply.

So for the sake of brevity, I shall make an executive decision here and use the Franklin chart with Mars 21Gem22:31 (2:21 am lmt) returning to natal degree and minute on August 12, 2009 at 2:15:39 am edt in Philadelphia; ASC 13Can57/Venus; Mc 24Pis09/Uranus.

(Venus with Uranus can indicate extravagant spending and Venus conj ASC does like her indulgences.)

Here’s the chart image (if you can’t click-to-enlarge for better viewing, I shall have to post the chart on SO’W and will add its link to this post asap) – and here is the link, if your browser need it – turns out, mine does:

US Mars Return 2009 fr Frankl

8.12.09; 3:15:40 am edt, Philadelphia, PA: US natal Sun rising with Mars Return (MR) Venus rising, too.

This is a Venus-to-natal-Sun transit so we may expect Venusian things to be emphasized: charm, beauty, luxury, music, values, smaller amounts of money, and relationships, including partnerships. As you know, Sun = ‘the leader’ in a national chart, but also signifies our nation’s purpose, goals, and self-will.

Venus to n Sun: Offering cooperation in joint efforts will be of positive benefit and allies are apt to be supportive. Negative potentials include overweening pride, self-indulgence, and selfishness.

Integrity and upright principles are the character traits that will be noticed – I only hope we have some left, and that our president isn’t just zoomin’ us on these issues.

Occurring during a Jupiter Hour (as do the other versions of the 2009 Mars Return), we see Jupiter still in conference with Chiron and Neptune in 8th house, one of the Money houses (the monied 2nd h has MR Sun 19Leo43 shining upon it. Our 2/8 axis concerns of Money, Insurance, Credit, Debt, Transformation, etc, will be ongoing.)

Now let’s skip ahead a bit for the main course – the fact that in this Mars Return, Mars is apex (focal) planet in a Mutable T-Square pattern between the soon-to-perfect Saturn-Uranus opposition (#3 of 3) which falls upon the Mc/Ic axis of the MR 2009 chart.

The midpoint pictures formed are not very attractive or comforting, but what do we expect from the ‘god of war’ and quarrels anyway?

Sat/Uran = Mars: the occasionally wrong use of extraordinary energy; violence; calamity; upheavals; great efforts and toil; anxiety about how things will get on; a forced release from tensions and strains; challenging others to a decisive contest or fight; injury; accident; deprivation of freedom.

Saturn/Mc = Mars: a lack of enterprise or initiative; being docile and giving in; feeling defenseless; suffering under oppression; accepting one’s destiny obediently; enforced separation; mourning.

I warned you they weren’t pretty!

Mutable T-Square with apex Mars:

Astrologer Bil Tierney, in his excellent book ‘Dynamics of Aspect Analysis’ says this about Mutable T-Squares:

The Mutable quality diffuses the dynamic energy of the T-Square; nervousness, disorganization, a lack of consistent efforts accomplish little; there is overstimulation and a high-strung nature which makes concentrated work difficult to stick to because of distractions; may be half-hearted about goals.

If Mars is in Gemini (or Virgo), and the tension is resolved and the energy well-directed, well-planned actions may be initiated with effective results. New starts (Mars Returns ARE new starts!) can then be pioneering and refreshing; straightforwardness invigorates others to be productive and helpful.

(That last statement echoes Venus to US natal Sun and Venus rising in the MR chart. You’ll notice that US natal planets are highlighted around the outside of the chart in dark green; US Inaugural Jupiter conjuncts MR 8th cusp, highlighted in pink. And tr NN still points toward the Jan 20, 2009 Inaugural Sun and Mercury Rx.)

Well-managed, this apex Mars’ impulse to act is balanced with an awareness of the consequences of action.

Now that would be a pleasant change from the Bush-Cheney years, wouldn’t it? If only!

My problem is, I think that seeing ahead to the consequences of their actions either didn’t matter to them – being so high above the masses and all and part of the NWO agenda – or they accomplished much of the mayhem and chaos they intended.

It remains to be seen how in the pocket of the NWO crowd President Obama really is, but I suspect he’s right in the thick of things, don’t you?

Yet Mars is never ‘happy’ when posited in 12th house of the Unconscious; Karma; and Self-Undoing, is he? Equipment breakdowns may occur, secret plots and enemies cause mischief, and one’s actions have mysterious or misunderstood purposes…all the things I dislike about governments, US or otherwise.

Mars in 12th house indicates secret enemies we of the public don’t even know we have! And imprisonments for political reasons are possible – those we’ve already seen; they will continue.

Also, Mars in the Watery 12th house prefers to act in secret to avoid opposition from others; unconscious anger is behind much of his indirectness and negative motivations which undermine (12th house = dissolving, secretive, deceptive, if inspired, Neptune.) The prison riots over the weekend in California may be seen as an early manifestation of Mars in 12th house (of prisons, hospitals, and zoos.)

And now here is the piece-de-resistence I wish the world could resist entirely – a midpoint picture already in effect, but ongoing for the duration of this 2-year Mars Return for America:

Mars/Pluto = Uranus: brutality; violence; calamities; a chip on one’s shoulder; fight first, talk later; a dangerous sense of attack.

(Now as usual, midpoint picture potentials operate on an ‘any-all-none’ basis, and on various levels. Ex: “attack” may be physical or www-related. Triggers by way of transits (real time) or progressions (inner manifesting in the outer world) may be necessary for a picture to activate, even with an apex Mars, the planet of ‘activation.’ All midpt pics from Tyl and Ebertin.)

Let’s close with the applying aspects of Mars to see how things will progess through the two years the 2009 MR is in effect – most are helpful with the exception of the Saturn/Uranus/Mc squares – which can give much dynamic energy for overcoming obstacles, too, if one perseveres:

1. trine Jupiter (1A08)
2. sextile Sun (1A34)
3. trine Chiron (2A36)
4. square Mc (2A51)
5. trine Neptune (3A56)
6. square Uranus (4A40)

The square with Saturn is separating here but will perfect as Saturn moves ahead in the zodiac to square US natal Mars….actions blocked, delayed, or frustrated.

Since the Sun’s purpose needs the energy of Mars to accomplish anything, the Sun/Jupiter opposition across the 2/8 axis indicates over-optimism in money matters, and promising more than can be delivered.

Grandiose schemes of Jupiter and Neptune (with Sun opposing expansive Jupiter and Neptune, ‘the speculator’ pair) should be made more practical or even curtailed, and arrogant attitudes should be avoided if the cooperation mentioned above is to be appreciated and used effectively.

Well, if you’ve read this far, you must be as almost as wumped out as I am, so it’s time to say, Jude out!

Did you get Feb 2009’s forecast yet?

 Purple Pansies

It’s not too late, you know.

Besides, I was just wondering because there’s one available from Julie Demboski and it’s a marvel for its clarity and practical advice!

We earthlings remain in the midst of the Saturn-Uranus opposition (‘old’ vs ‘new’) which perfects for the second out of five times on Feb 5…or right now, depending on your time zone.

Julie adds the appropriate asteroids to the monthly picture for extra insights. All in all, her Feb 2009 forecast can’t hurt even if you don’t know a thing about Astrology (Julie writes in English, you’ll be pleased to hear), and her forecast for February (as well as other articles and essays – you’ll see them listed)  makes a fine and concise model for Astrology writers everywhere.

Now this. Is how. It should be done.

Saturn-Uranus opposition exact again Feb 5 2009

Update 9.15.09: if you’re looking for info on today’s exact opposition between Saturn and Uranus, I’ve just published this for Sept 15, 2009.

~Original post begins here:

The wonderful Kathryn Cassidy has written an excellent article concerning the ongoing opposition between traditional Saturn and progressive Uranus, exact on Feb 5 for the 2nd out of 5 times.

One point Kathryn touches on is how governments, businesses, and economies have started losing ‘power’ and she says that power outages will be on the increase (this week in the US, Kentuckians and others resemble that remark in vicious fashion, thanks to ice storms and there’s more bad weather possibly on the way next week.)

She even gives investment tips for the more daring among us so my tip to you is to hurry by and check it out!

Tolstoy and Saturn opposing Uranus

My old Astrology friend, Philip Brown, has updated his excellent article on Leo Tolstoy and the Saturn-Uranus opposition.

Philip relates the opposition of 1828, the year of Tolstoy’s birth, with US  ‘reform president’ Andrew Jackson, who was elected during the shattering (Uranus) of the old social order (Saturn)  of 1828’s opposition of Saturn (form; tradition) and Uranus (disruption; rebellion; revolution.)

Count Leo Tolstoy, best known for his novel ‘War and Peace’, was quite the system breaker during his lifetime preferring the peasant class to his own aristocratic status. Or perhaps he just didn’t care for oppression wherever he saw it.

So it’s:  War (Uranian revolution) vs Peace (Saturnian stability) and a man with the concentration to stick with a novel that details, among other things of his time, Napoleon and his army’s  defeat in Russia.

The Natal  Astrology of the Count:

Tolstoy’s birth data is conflicting so AstroDataBank gives it as DD for ‘Dirty Data.”  Even the date is in dispute due to different calendars, but the version Philip has used (click link to see the natal chart) is:

Sept 9, 1828; 10:52 pm; Tula, Russia. The alternate date is August 28, 1828.

I shall go with ‘Sept 9, 1828’ as well which gives Count Tolstoy Sun Virgo-Moon Virgo, a double-Earth blend of practicality with much concern for material well-being and health.

Double-Earth’s deepest, darkest fear is of chaos, so there we see his Saturn-Uranus opposition in play. This personality blend is a stable and well-grounded combination, a master of whatever medium it chooses. Tolstoy-the-author is an excellent example of this.

Sun Vir-Moon Vir: a perfectionist who identifies with work; utilitarian; precise and analytical; concerned and conscientious; efficient and good with details; synthesizes knowledge and uses it; a thinker and a doer; worships the intellect; approaches creativity with a scientific mind; concerned with health and service; modest and may have an inferiority complex.

SunVir-Moon Vir in relationships:

Kind-hearted, sentimental, and hates to offend anyone in any way. The motto is: ‘actions speak louder than words’; discreet in love matters; devoted but feels hurt if unappreciated; may be prone to remaining in an unsatsfactory long-term relationship due to a love of moral beauty and to a difficulty in breaking established routines.

There is a tendency for high standards to inspire finicky fault-finding, and an ‘old-maidish’ style may become evident.

“Images for Integration:  A well-oiled printing machine hums away, producing perfectly bound copies of ‘The Layman’s Guide to Essential Nutrients’…A ballerina practises alone in a room of mirrors and, sensing her imperfections, focuses on her flaws and begins again.”

(From ‘Sun Sign-Moon Sign’ by Charles and Suzi Harvey, who also use Sept 9, 1828 for Tolstoy’s birth.)

And here’s a quote from the Saturnian-Uranian author himself:

“The happiness of man consists in life. And life is labour…The vocation of every man and woman is to serve other people.”

Sounds exactly like a double Virgo, sign of  the book author (Gemini’s shorter attention span tends toward writing articles), and Tolstoy’s ‘writer’s planet’ — Mercury — is in Virgo as well!

Ron Paul on an Independent Israel

Ron Paul: No Such Thing as an Independent Israel

By Jihan Hafiz

I don’t think there is such a thing as an independent Israel doing anything, because I think no matter what they do it’s our money, it’s our weapons, and they’re not going to do it without us approving it and if they get into trouble we’re going to bail them out, so there is no separation between the two.

This post is being filed under ‘Saturn-Uranus’ because their ongoing opposition, the ‘Full Moon’ phase of their cycle which began in 1988, is culminating with the oppression and aggression being perpetrated and suffered in Gaza prior to Barack Obama’s taking office.

So you know who in America THAT implicates. Of course, Obama could be glad the offensive is being executed before he takes the reins, who knows?

Well, is the current blow-up of retaliation and mayhem between Israel and Palestine the best mankind can offer his fellow man?

This is IT?

My question: When is speaking out not enough, oh United Nations?

Saturn now opposing Uranus symbolizes the Palestinian and Israeli
conflict and in a larger sense, the Middle East itself.

The present cycle began with their Great Conjunction of 1988 and
now culminates with their opposition, the 'Full Moon' stage in their

Now here are four quotes nabbed from my Sun-Moon blend notes, quotes
which may apply on multiple levels to the current endlessly retaliatory
situations in which the world is mired and which are being egged on
and/or orchestrated by cynical and self-serving politicians and the
crime syndicates they belong to:

Sun Cap-Moon Libra: 'Which requires the greater strength, letting go
or restraining? It is the greatest manifestation of power to be calm.'

Sun AQ-Moon Libra: 'As for the men in power, they are so anxious to
establish the myth of infallibility that they do their utmost to
ignore truth.'

Boris Pasternak

Sun AQ-Moon Sco: 'Politics, as a practice, whatever its professions,
has always been the systematic organization of hatreds.'

Henry Brook Adams

And last, but most definitely not least:

Sun Pis-Moon Virgo: 'Without forgiveness life is governed by...
an endless cycle of resentment and retaliation.'

“There are two lasting bequests we can give our children: One is roots, the other is wings.” Teaching children values and giving them the opportunity to excel is essential to good parenting. However, I feel I must also provide my children (and myself) insight into the ones who came before us: our ancestors whose lives and stories have shaped us into who we are. This is my journey; these are their stories…
