Newt Gingrich: no lapdance a 2nd time
As a Georgia native, I am always quick to point out that Newt Gingrich isn’t ~really~ a Georgia native and with this jaw-dropper news tidbit, he’s done nothing but continue to live down to my usual expectations of him.
The affair may be completely innocent but it looks awfully odd to me. See what you think.
Palin in Hong Kong
With former governor and former VP candidate speaking in Hong Kong on US defense spending, we and the larger world have yet another example of her scintillating orating ability and indepth understanding of military issues.
May the specter of Palin’s finger on The Button be a caution to every US voter tempted to think she should run in 2012 or any other year.
Rep Louis Gohmert and the 3 branches of government
Returning from errands a while ago, I found Rep. Louis Gohmert (R-TX) on C-SPAN speaking in the chamber on a resolution to teach the US Constitution to high school seniors.
Since I had Civics classes all through school, I heartily agree that this is a wonderful idea to re-install classes on government prior to an 18-year-old’s voting for the first time.
Rep. Gohmert said that many Americans cannot name the three branches of government, and I’ve read this somewhere recently myself – a result, I suspect, of taking Civics courses out of our public school system.
What made me chuckle was the lawmaker’s lament that more US citizens can name the Three Stooges than can name the three branches of government, so let me take the Civics test now:
Mo has to be the president of the Executive branch;
Larry must be the Judicial branch, SCOTUS;
which leaves crazy Curly as the Legislative branch, aka the US Congress.
Did I pass? Am I passing yet? Am I lying? And would you consider grading on the curve? ;p
Palin knocks Alaska snow off boots 7.26.09
If you care a wit about Sarah Palin leaving office today, click to read an eye witness account published by The Washington Independent.
And here’s a Republican view that Sarah Palin is another Huckabee, a reference to her political prospects, one may assume.
Huckabee on Palin’s cut and run
Is it even possible to be “hounded from an opportunity”?
I’ve heard of losing them, or of having them pass by, fall through, or lead to nought, but “hounded from”??
There is a hound barking in this bizarre story but it isn’t Palin’s opportunity.
And I think this is where President Harry Truman sits up and says, “If you can’t stand the heat get out of the kitchen.”
Palin steps down July 26
Is Alaska Governor Sarah Palin’s rambling announcement today that she’s stepping down from the governor’s post on July 26 a brilliant strategy to concentrate on preparing for a presidential run in 2012?
Given recent political scandals in the news, one hopes her resignation isn’t an attempt to dodge a scandalous bullet of some sort! But even if it is, the 2012 election may still be the GOP’s primary concern amongst their thinning ranks of possible candidates.
Somehow she’s framing her stay in office as a waste of state money and time. Hmm. In her press conference being played on NPR right now, she sounds breathless and more than a little odd.
Astrology notes on Governor Sanford
Here’s an excellently informative post with Astrology details on Gov. Mark Sanford if you’d like a wider view of the fellow who was a big Impeachment Freak against President Clinton for much the same sort of shenanigans he’s indulged in himself, as it awkwardly turns out.

Update July 3, 2009:
i have received a message asking if i’ll be posting on Sanford’s chart myself and the short answer is: not if i can help it.
Others subjects are higher on my posting agenda but that’s only part of the reason, the other being that whenever Washington politicians make a big deal out of a sex scandal – as with Clinton – i always ask myself what they’re diverting attention from in another direction for there must be Something important we Should Be Paying Attention To that they may be actively veiling from our gazes. (Timing is often a clue.)
So j’refuse to rubberneck their hypocrisies in the ‘hot romance’ department – how very very boring. jc
