An FDA gone nuts over walnuts?

Did you hear the one about the USFDA having a policing problem over the health toutings found on Diamond’s packages of delicious walnuts?

Once I heard that a country with many laws is a crooked country. And I do believe America’s founders were of the persuasion that our nation’s laws are not meant to be more important than the communities and individuals they protect in this hard-won, Bill of Rights nation.

Okay, so maybe I’m a bit biased because walnuts happen to be my favorite nut, all things considered, and they’re being bullied (rightly or wrongly) by a goliath of State. And I don’t appreciate in the least the coldhearted police-state direction America’s governing and banking families have now determined to be ‘necessary’ for we-the-people’s futures.

Now that would be a simmering crock! For its forced implementation advantages only the power elite, not the rest of us.

Plus, I must admit to being spotted now and then tossing a few walnut chunks atop a summer salad along with some tres-thin slices of
red globe radishes unless someone tries to stop me.

Oh, and this weekend while on a family visit I enjoyed a delightful meal of Pad Thai–click for a recipe of this rather complex dish and/or to view a Pad Thai cookery demonstration video.

It’s very cool!

Famous Quotes: democracy vs plutocracy

“We’re not a democracy. It’s a terrible misunderstanding and a slander to the idea of democracy to call us that. In reality, we’re a plutocracy: a government by the wealthy.”

– Ramsey Clark, former US Attorney General

“Of all forms of tyranny the least attractive and the most vulgar is the tyranny of mere wealth, the tyranny of plutocracy.”

– John Pierpont Morgan

(See JPM’s natal chart in sidebar of Pages. jc)

“I hope we shall crush in its birth the aristocracy of our moneyed corporations, which dare already to challenge our government to a trial of strength and bid defiance to the laws of our country.”

– Thomas Jefferson

Mr. Jefferson’s hope has been denied.

Did you say, more power for the Fed, a private institution?

And as wealthy old Cornelius Vanderbilt, railroad tycoon, once intoned:

“What do I care about the law? Hain’t I got the power?

Religion and America’s Founders

The ‘Religious Right’ doesn’t like it but America was founded as a secular nation.

Otherwise religious persecution wouldn’t have been long in coming which would have negated our basic tenet of  ‘separation of church and state’  which the Founding Fathers embedded within our freedom documents…not the exact words, mind you, but their wishes were made clear.

In fact, to promote the idea that America was founded as a “Christian nation”  may be missing the whole point of this Grand Experiment!

But if you keep repeating a falsehood, it supposedly becomes easier to swallow. With this particular child of the Revolution, it does not become easier, upholder of the Protestant Bible though I am:

“In God We Trust” was added to US money several years down the line from the original intent of this nation’s founding. And the phrase’s inclusion must have seemed like a good idea at the time.

Moon Art for a Monday

Moonlight Path

Moonlight Path

Monday is the Moon’s day and since the Aquarian Solar Eclipse is fresh (occurring here at 2:55 am est), I thought a shout-out to Luna on her day was a good way to begin the week.

Drawing: Prismacolor oil, Rexel Derwent watercolour pencils (dry) on black paper; perpetrated by Jude Cowell, natal Moon in Pisces, Sun in Capricorn.

So now, for all of us who were born with Sun in Capricorn-Moon in Pisces:

Sun Cap-Moon Pisces (Earth-Water): scientist and poet; a pragmatic dreamer; an imaginative organizer; tough and tender; dependable but private; both practical and dreamy.

Self-reflection makes this combo serious and solemn at times but allows deep insight into others’ plights. A natural humanitarian with a penchant for mystery, this blend makes for one who isn’t always sure if she’s the cat’s meow or something the cat dragged in.

Quietly bringing order out of chaos is a talent (which astrologers recognize as a helpful trait!), and there’s a capacity to give form and substance to imagination.

Weaknesses include: fear of the unknown, a pathetic tendency to carry other people’s burdens, and a tendency to lose confidence through negative thought patterns.

The Sun Cap-Moon Pisces blend is shared natally by:

Benjamin Franklin (an astrologer, as you know), Paul Cezanne (one of my top 3 favorite Impressionists), Elvis Presley (well, as a kid I liked his music), J. Edgar Hoover (ee-euww!), Sandy Koufax (saw him play on TV watching baseball with my Dad), Ava Gardner (now there was a beauty), Keith Thomas (author of ‘Religion and the Decline of Magic’), and J. R. R. Tolkein (read ‘The Hobbit’ when it was brand new but couldn’t get through all of The Trilogy, it wore me out!  Sorry.)

Let’s hear a peep from Ben – here is one of the more practical bits of advice from Ben Franklin – it’s one of my favorites of his quotes:

‘Dost thou love life? Then do not squander time, for that’s the stuff life is made of.’

And Astrology is what brings the element of Time to the table!

Images for Integration:

‘A wine collector uncorks a rare vintage to celebrate a success…A child builds a sandcastle of reinforced concrete…Bilbo in Tolkein’s ‘Lord of the Rings’…’Bathers in a Landscape’ by Cezanne…Elvis Presley’s ‘Blue Suede Shoes’. (‘Sun Sign-Moon Sign’ by Chas & Suzi Harvey.)

The ‘sandcastle/reinforced concrete’ reminds me of his help in founding America, ya know? Ideal-idea of freedom into manifestation  and all that, with Uranus, planet of revolution and rebellion,  discovered in 1781 – between the American Revolution and the French Revolution.

So it was Uranus’ creative spark (Plato’s Ideal) poured into Saturnian form, circa 1776, and voila! a New Atlantis: America.

Well, thanks for taking a meander with me down a Moonlight Path on the  Moon’s Day. Hope you enjoyed yourself!

Bush’s Farewell Address tonight 1.15.09

Yes, America has limped through 8 years of George Bush and the neocons, shredded and bankrupt, but still (barely) here.

If you’d like a peek at the horoscope for tonight’s address scheduled for 8:00 pm est, check it out at:

http://starsoverwashington.blogspot.com/2009/01/bush-and-washington-farewell-addresses.html

where you’ll also find a link to the text of George Washington’s Farewell Address of Sept 17, 1796  – for comparison’s sake.  Or I should probably say, for contrast’s sake.

Well, that was quick! As it would have to be – how long can anyone, even a pathological liar and/or manic depressive, talk without an unconscious slip-up?

He always seems to me to make one or two though – like talking about other people who impose their value system on Other People and kill lots of folks in the process. This is the point where he is apparently incapable of looking himself in the mirror to say, Oops! I’m doing the same thing myself.

Hitler, Stalin – they all possessed that same ‘it’s them not me’ quality as they set about cleansing the world of those they considered  Unacceptable. And you know that’s one of Bush’s favorite bossy words.

And so, in the spirit of George W. Bush, soon to be past ‘president’ of the United States of America, that the man and the mission recognizable as G.W. Bush, is hereby pronounced officially ~unacceptable~ to this native American citizen, this child of the Revolution.

(Tar’n’Feather Fund’s cauldron still bubbling on the hob, if anyone’s interested in giving him and Cheney each their much-deserved fare-thee-wells on a thin rail.

Funding the new New Deal

Surfing about the interweb today I ran across a magazine previously unknown to me and which contains online articles about financial and economic issues of the day: Yes! Magazine.

The magazine needs new subscriptions, of course, but they cordially place a bevy of articles on their site for online reading, too.

One such, by Ellen Brown, concerns funding the ‘new’ New Deal which Barack Obama is being expected to deliver to America. The article covers how banks create money,  the thoughts of Thomas Jefferson on such matters, and more.

Here’s a snippet for you:  Jefferson, writing to Treasury Secretary Gallatin in 1815:

“The treasury, lacking confidence in the country, delivered itself bound hand and foot to bold and bankrupt adventurers and bankers pretending to have money, whom it could have crushed at any moment.”

My question: Is it too late to crush the pretenders?

Jefferson’s hindsight of 1815 should be used foresightfully in 2009 as the speculator duo, Jupiter and Neptune, meet 3x upon America’s natal Moon in Aquarius all through 2009. (In a national chart, Moon = the people, populace, the public.)

*Jupiter-Neptune = Moon: going with the wind; becoming involved in speculation, instability, wastefulness; dreaminess; an emotional swoon; little sense of reality; losing oneself in plans.

And this is a year-long influence so foresight says:  please beware of those who pretend to have money!

But all Astrology aside, you may wish to read Brown’s excellent and informative article here:

Paulson and Bernanke

No interest rate cut today – inflation still a possiblility, the Fed said.

Since I was skulking around my other politically flavored blog, Stars Over Washington, for financial posts and tidbits, I ran across an entry from the day before Ben Bernanke gave his first stateement as Fed chairman – written in expectation of it, in fact.

Then Hank Paulson took a demotion from Goldman-Sachs to US Secretary of the Treasury, so a few natal chart details were called for, so I nosed into Paulson’s ‘maverick’ status…and here again is a link for you with a quote on “the aristocracy of our moneyed corporations” from Thomas Jefferson closing out the post.

Something tells me Thom would be disappointed in how America has turned out on that score…

And here’s the one about Ben’s first shout out as Fedhead…
