James Dean’s Fatal Car Crash: an Eclipse Triggered

Teen icon and “genius” actor James Dean was obsessed with speed and with doing things his own way, it is always noted, and his new Porsche Spyder convertible had little chance to give him joy or the racing victories he sought since production of his third film, Giant, had wrapped up. Instead, the 24-year-old’s new Spyder very soon acted as a method of death during a road trip to auto races in Salinas, California on September 30, 1955. At 5:45 pm near Chalome, California the driver of a heavier Ford Tudor coupe driven by student Donald Turnupseed made a left turn across the Y-shaped intersection directly into Dean’s path.

The officially declared “Year of the Teenager”–1956–had not yet dawned in September 1955 and archetypal teenager James Dean had already left the world stage forever.

Astrologers who use the YOD planetary configuration with its ‘crossroads; crisis; turning point; special task’ implications may instantly recognize the road conditions and actions on that day reflected in a YOD-like situation in addition to a transit of dangerous proportions for accident-prone Uranus was triggering Dean’s natal Mars in Leo!

In the car crash chart, a YOD formed as the Moon (physical body) rose @27Pis41 (conjunct Dean’s progressed Ascendant–@28Pis43 if we progress the natal chart to Chalome, CA). Moon opposes SP Moon @25Vir29 (in SP 6th house of Health) with racing Mars @22Vir04 nearing conjunction with SP Moon. So transiting Moon and tr Mars are Angular in Dean’s progressed chart. MC/IC Angles are at critical 29th degrees (MC 29Sag/IC 29Gem).

The car crash is timed by the rising Moon in late Pisces (had he smoked marijuana? He was known to) for at 5:45 pm Luna reached the apex of a YOD with the Neptune-Pluto sextile at its base–all three at 27 degrees which adds to the karmic or fated quality of the tragic event. And if we include the 28th degree Mercury in a sextile with deathly Pluto, the YOD condition becomes more complex and indicative of a crossroads/turning point event of life-changing importance made even more likely his purchase of a race car.

The Neptune-Pluto pair also hints at drug use along with otherworldiness, mysticism, and perhaps more to the point–crooks, swindlers, and organized crime. Separately, both planets are linked with end-of-life conditions and events with one of Pluto’s roles the god of Hades. And with a 12th house apex Moon in a YOD pattern with them we think of 12th house realms such as karma, self-undoing, hospitals, and secret enemies. Chances are, Dean had made quite a few enemies in Hollywood and New York with his rude, use-them-while-they-benefit-you behavior.

And this troublesome teen icon as leader of a generation of rebellious American kids? Uh-oh! Perhaps the Solar Eclipse Series of Dean’s death is of importance? That would be the 11 South which manifested in Jimmy’s natal 3rd house of Short Trips on June 20, 1955 @28Gemini–conjunct his progressed IC (End of Life, Separations). 11 South themes include system failures, old ideas or methods die and need replacing with new ways of handling issues, sudden reforms, and “any blocks may be violently or tragically removed” (Brady, ‘Predictive Astrology’.)

Now if you’ve studied James Dean’s natal horoscope (February 8, 1931 9:00 am CST Marion, IN), you know that this disruptive, conflicted rebel was born with electrical planet Uranus rising at critical degree: ASC 12Ari13, Uranus 12Ari26, a picture of coping ability, sudden crises, individuality, originality, and yes, genius. And of course, an Aries Ascendant makes racing Mars his chart-ruler, here posited in the 5th house of Risk-Taking and Creative Endeavors (such as theater and film acting) in the self-dramatizing, entertaining sign of Leo the Lion (@2:24 Rx). Plus, his natal Uranus in Mars-ruled Aries identifies him among such characters as anarchists, Utopians, and those with a zealous, cantankerous streak.

That his testy Mars was retrograde added to Dean’s tendency to do the unexpected thing and to go against the grain, and he often received criticism from colleagues for being difficult to work with. They never knew what sort of performance he would give until he gave it and he was super-sensitive to any and all criticism or direction–a sense of self-determination is a must for eccentric Uranus rising folk. Plus, a natal 7th house Moon in sensitive Scorpio (early death of Mother) squared Mars making for an emotionally touchy nature and explosive temper for this abandoned child who ended most of his personal relationships before others could break off with him (relating Jupiter Rx and square separative Uranus). This habit applied to relationships with guys and gals and there is a hint of sexual lack of follow through shown in the natal chart (Venus inconjunct Mars). Apparently, personal relationships were either emotionally satisfying to some degree (Venus ruled by Saturn) or were sexually so (Mars in Sun-ruled Leo.)

Now there are many other factors worth considering in the natal horoscope and psyche of James Dean yet this post is actually meant more for notating a certain cosmic condition operating on the day of his death and detailed, below, under ‘Dean’s Pre-Natal Eclipse Triggered’.

That some people since 1955 have proposed deliberate assassination of this budding Hollywood star (said to be bisexual and thus privy to certain other stars’ romantic secrets which if blurted out by the unpredictable Dean would ruin careers and devastate studio bottom lines) is also beyond the scope of this post though a small mention of such may be necessary, below. (Donald ‘Turnupseed’…’Turn Up Speed’?? Weird!)

Dean’s many obsessions and psychological complexes may be viewed within the gestalt of his natal chart, made obvious by an excruciatingly tragic childhood: his beloved, creative Mother died of cancer when he was 9 (or, 8, he said in an interview, linked below). Then his rigid, cold Dad packed his grieving son off to live with relatives in Fairmount, Indiana. In the heavens on his day and hour of birth, we see difficult configurations across the Parental-Security axis–the 4/10 houses and Cancer-Capricorn, a sad, depressive, restrictive Moon-Saturn signature which was lightened somewhat by a Moon-Jupiter trine and an imaginative Moon-Neptune sextile of opportunity. (While alive, his Mom always lifted his spirits with play-acting and such–‘the actor’ able to easily display for an audience a myriad of emotions across his expressive face! See a telling note concerning their marriage blend of Sun and Moon, below.)

And consider Dean’s Cancer-Capricorn planets! Jupiter @11Can36 Rx and powerful manipulator Pluto @19Can12 Rx in 4th house opposite old man Saturn @18Cap09, its own sign, and little boy Mercury @26Cap01 in 10th house. Except for Mercury, all are significators for Father and the authority Dean constantly rebelled against (well demonstrated in his second film, Rebel Without a Cause)…yet there in 10th house is small, ‘speedy’ Mercury with its well-structured mind that naturally tends toward the depressive side in Saturn-ruled Capricorn (a harsh Saturn-Pluto opposition–1A03–ouch!)

With rave reviews of his inspired performance in ‘East of Eden’ now to his credit, James Dean was approaching the verge of finding his inner authority when his life was cut short–and directing was his eventual career goal. Yet psychological improvement may have been far in the future considering his natal Sun-Neptune quindecile (165 degrees), an aspect suggesting a hidden or unknown personal identity (Sun) and may also denote actors who must hide behind masks to win approval and must work hard to define themselves–to themselves, most of all. You see, Father disapproved of a son he considered ‘effeminate’, a son whose Mother had him taking violin and tap dancing lessons.

So on September 30, 1955, the Aquarian Sun actor and developing matinee idol was glad to be free for a while to pursue his longtime love of car racing once Giant had wrapped. Soon he was off to Salinas on a beautiful autumn day with a Porsche car mechanic riding by his side and other of his team following in a vehicle behind. But then Turnupseed turned up at the Mercurial crossroad and the rest is legend.

Dean’s Pre-Natal Solar Eclipse Triggered

James Dean was born into a difficult Solar Eclipse Saros Series, the 4 South. A South Node eclipse denotes an out rushing of energy and has a Saturnian, separative undertone. (Getting swiped by the Tail of the Dragon is seldom if ever fun.)

4 South themes involve fated happenings in financial and relationship matters which feel out of control; blocked or frustrated emotions cause trouble, and there may be a sudden desire to end a relationship (Dean’s forte). Avoiding rash actions until things settle down is the best advice when 4 South is influencing matters (Brady) yet it’s doubtful James Dean would have listened if an astrologer had counseled caution at any point in his brief life, much less on a liberating day just made for racing a new Porsche. Perhaps getting the hay out of town while enjoying new vistas was his way of avoidance.

Yes, 4 South is merely a background influence in his life unless activated by transit or progression so what triggered or stimulated its themes at his death? Actually, there are two: Mercury, planet of travel and vehicles, was Stationary Retrograde at that moment @28Lib37 conjunct transiting Neptune @27Lib12, both in 8th house of Transformation and Death, and both conjoining Dean’s PE degree of 27Lib46–an exact double ‘hit’ to 4 South. Transiting Neptune brings a veiling, deceptive influence with a higher plane possibly in the mix as well (ex: death) and when applicable, may also supply the potential for assassination or murder. Certainly, Neptune, planet of the Unconscious, contributed to a loss of direction, or to taking the wrong path which may describe the events of this accident, if indeed it was that.

Meanwhile, speedy Mercury, strengthened by its Station, rules such things as communications, thinking processes, perceptions and impressions, hand-eye coordination, and the physical senses–including eyesight (Dean’s was not good so he wore glasses). But was the collision really Dean’s mistake?

Perhaps his last words to his passenger yelled into the rushing wind (Neptune) are telling of the fatal crash’s planetary implications including the confused, out-of-sync Mercury-Neptune conjunction (a restless, often deluded pair of energies when blended) as they conjoined Dean’s PE and thus may have affected his ill-advised bolt toward freedom on that day as he separated himself from others:

Dean’s Porsche had the right-of-way as Turnupseed’s Ford unexpectedly crossed the road and smashed into the actor who said as he accelerated, “That guy’s gotta see us–he’ll stop,” an unfortunate, tragic misperception of the other driver’s intentions since, occurring at dusk, Turnupseed may not have seen the gray, low-slung convertible at all as Dean assumed (his progressions show an SP opposition between Mercury in confused yet creative Pisces and Neptune Rx in Virgo–across the 6/12 Vir-Pis axis (victim-savior). Perhaps the collision was only Dean’s mistake.

James Dean was pronounced dead shortly after with internal injuries and a broken neck, jaw, and arms. His passenger, the Porsche mechanic, felt guilty for the rest of life, it is said, yet he survived the 1955 accident with injuries but perished in a car crash in 1981. Mr. Turnupseed suffered minor injuries in 1955 but basically ‘walked away’ leaving Dean’s Porsche a tangled, crushed mess of metal–and millions of fans bereft. No charges were brought against 23-year-old Turnupseed.

As for James Dean’s natal 1st house Chiron, the Wounded Healer and Blindspot, its natal degree and sign, 14Tau07, is a placement indicating a crisis concerning values and one’s physical incarnation on Earth (Clow); plus, Chiron conjoins difficult Fixed Star, Menkar, in constellation Cetus, the Whale–‘a victim of the unconscious’ indicator which supports Dean’s untimely Mercury-Neptune misperception and his tragic misreading of environmental conditions which led to fatality.

Now a word about the ‘shotgun wedding’ of James Dean’s parents, Winton and Mildred (who was 2 months pregnant.) Their early afternoon ceremony on July 26, 1930 (Marion, IN) shows Sun (male; husband) and Moon (female; wife) in Leo with the Moon conjoining Mercury @15Leo, the Lion Point. Mercury may be seen as James, her unborn child and this is supported by the blend’s apt ‘Image for Integration’ given by Charles and Suzi Harvey in ‘Sun Sign-Moon Sign’:

“A child in an Edenic paradise builds a beautiful sandcastle in the sunshine with all the creatures of nature in joyous attendance.”

Shades of play-acting with Mom, later with colleagues, and of the disruptive rebel whose unique, magnetic talent for acting stole the show in ‘East of Eden’!

As noted, James Dean’s natal horoscope is a fascinating study full of conflicted emotions and parental complexes if you haven’t checked it out and I recommend it to you, plus, there are many biographies of his life in print and now available on Kindle.

My primary source during preparation for this post is Donald Spoto’s ‘Rebel: The Life and Legend of James Dean’. Also recommended are the following related links, the first of which is an excellent article by master astrologer Tony Louis:

Mars and the Passion for Speed (includes interesting links to follow, plus, horoscopes.)

Here are a few notes from the History Channel: James Dean Dies in a Car Accident.

Plus, columnist Hedda Hopper’s famous interview with Dean published March 27, 1955: Keep Your Eye on James Dean, subtitled, “Indiana Farm Boy, 23, Scores a Smash Hit in His First Film” (‘East of Eden’, with its spun sandcastles upon a California beach.) The caption under his photo reads, “James Dean…wins “young genius” label” and reports that onscreen Dean has an “exciting tenseness and the gift for projecting ever-changing moods.”

Now is such a Scorpio Moon-drenched assessment of his talent Uranian enough for you?

F. Scott Fitzgerald’s natal chart w Zelda’s natal planets

The Natal Chart of F. Scott Fitzgerald and the Roaring Twenties

by Jude Cowell

My friend Julie Demboski’s analysis of today’s entry of Venus into Mercury-ruled Gemini Talkity Talkity Talk fills us in on what and where we may expect this social energy to express.

And of course, one of the signs related to writing, Gemini, is the sign of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s natal Pluto (13:43 Rx) and his imbibing Mars-Neptune conjunction (20:38 and 20:18 Rx, respectively.) As you probably know, Fitzgerald ruined his health by years of drinking alcohol (and possibly taking other drugs–I don’t know) with Mars signifying energy and action and Neptune ruling all forms of negative escapism.

Another ‘writing’ indicator is his Mercury-Venus conjunction in arty Libra @24:48 and 23:12, respectively. Between this conjunction and natal Sun @2Lib18 in the 8th house of Debt and Death lurks asteroid Bacchus and ‘bacchanalia’ is one way to describe the lifestyle and drunken parties of Scott and wife Zelda (born Zelda Sayre July 24, 1900 Montgomery, AL.)

This post will end with a view of a horoscope of the ‘Roaring Twenties’ Solar Eclipse of 1923 (16 North Saros Series = ‘inspiration; creativity; illumination’ and it repeats on November 3, 2013!); click chart to read a few basic details. The Eclipse fell into Scott’s 7th house of Partnerships and Marriage and I imagine the drinking and dancing became even wilder for it! Its material-released-from-the-unconscious influence must have inspired his writing as well.

Below is a view of The Great Gatsby author’s natal horoscope around which I’ve penned Zelda’s natal planets for noon since her birth time is unknown. During the 24-hour period of her day of birth, natal Moon in Cancer ranged from 3:35 to 16:24 making Zelda a Sun Leo-Moon Cancer personality blend of Fire-Water…steamy!

F. Scott Fitzgerald natal chart w Zelda's planets

F. Scott Fitzgerald natal chart w Zelda’s planets

September 24, 1896 3:30 pm +6:12:22 Saint Paul, Minnesota; Hour of the Sun; final dispositor Venus (23Lib12 conjunct intellectual Spica and ‘different approach’ Arcturus); Full Moon +212 degrees 9 minutes = objective, clear-headed (but for the alcohol), revelation, illumination, fulfillment; potential for separation/divorce from partner–or, from reality. (Rudhyar); Air-Earth = rational, efficient, innovative, social, communicating–plans before acting; can lose touch with feelings; finds steamy Fire-Water types like Zelda fascinating.

With this Friday’s premiere of Baz Luhrman’s The Great Gatsby, we see that transiting Jupiter (good fortune; increase) has been traveling amongst F. Scott’s trio of planets in Gemini–Pluto, Neptune, and Mars when success, illusion (film), and luxury are spotlighted–in this case, for those in the movie industry who have associated themselves with his novel, the Jazz Age, and those glamorous and giddy Roaring Twenties.

As you may be able to see, Zelda has a Gemini line-up of the same planets in different order and both were born soon after the Great Conjunction/s of Neptune and Pluto, a pair of generational planets signifying the supernatural, mystics, peculiar people, occultists, and psychics. Also, the pair is linked to: a craving for alcohol, nicotine and other substances, the pursuit of fantastic ideas, self-torment, manias, obsession, confusion, a lack of incentive to maintain health, and grievous loss (Ebertin.)

F. Scott Fitzgerald collapsed and died of heart attack after ill health and alcohol had weakened him in Hollywood, California on December 21, 1940. Transiting Uranus (sudden attacks) was in opposition to his natal Uranus in Scorpio (his mid-life crisis period), Jupiter conjoined his natal Moon in early Taurus after tr Saturn @8Tau13 Rx had been restricting it (deprivation, depression, ill health–Moon = emotions and physical body) and was heading back toward his Moon. This was also a Saturn-opposing-natal-Saturn transit, a time of little if any progress, regrets about the past, and other negative conditions possibly relating to work.

Nebulous Neptune @27Vir40 approached natal Sun thus weakening vitality and denoting unrealistic or misguided notions or goals, a lack of solid purpose, and much confusion; yet Neptune may also bring the highest creative inspiration though bolstering the ego (Sun) with alcohol (Neptune) has very negative effects at this time.

Well, there are many more things to discover in the natal horoscope of F. Scott Fitzgerald but I don’t want to ruin all your fun!

Image below: Roaring Twenties Solar Eclipse @17Vir06 (a critical degree) conjunct art-lover and pleasure-seeker Venus 17Vir12; Hour of Jupiter in Scorpio which conjoins the Midheaven (The Goal) so the optimistic pursuit of happiness, jolliness, and wealth infuse the air; there’s a Water Grand Trine of creativity which is part of a Kite pattern (success) with quirky, progressive Uranus as the tail, conjunct South Node @11Pis31, seeks freedom from the past but also denotes deception and illusion. Plus, the sign of Uranus indicates behavior of a generation, and Pisces, ruler of feet, does love to dance and imbibe!

The wild parties of the Jazz Age are supported here by Neptune in entertaining Leo with Saturn and Neptune in a sextile aspect of eating, drinking, and smoking (oral fixation) and showing a tendency to use negative escapism to cover up and ignore problems rather than deal with Saturn’s harsh realities and responsibilities.

Wedding Day Astrology: Russell Brand-Katy Perry

Update February 11, 2012: by now you’ve heard the sad news of the Perry-Brand divorce. For more details try this.

Original post begins here with no edits so that you may appreciate their marriage’s initial promise, their faith in true love which has not, it seems, carried their marital union up to a second anniversary:

By now you’ve heard the joyous news that pop star Katy Perry and her love, comedian and actor Russell Brand, tied the nuptial knot on Saturday, October 23, 2010, in beautiful and exotic India.

You’ll find a few wedding details here and here.

Yet all may not be sweetness and light since some local laws may have been violated and the couple’s wedding celebration could come under investigation (though one might imagine that a hefty fine could be assessed and paid.)

All congrats and best wishes to the happy couple!

Now I have decided not to publish on this blog a Wedding Day Astrology Report for the sidebar’s Pages list. This is because the Perry-Brand ceremony took place on Saturday October 23, 2010, and the Aries/Libra Full Moon perfected at 7:08 am IST in India!

It’s a fairly safe assumption that the two frisky entertainers did not arise early from bed to marry at the Full Moon so they could have a Sun Lib-Moon Aries blend for their partnership, even though Full Moons represent the balancing of two opposites…in a word, relationships.

So when did the Moon and Sun change signs on October 23 and how do the various combinations of energies change their Wedding Day Astrology synergy?

At 12:00 am IST on Oct 23, 2010, the Sun began @ 29Lib15 with the Moon 25Ari53.

The (feminine) Moon reached 00Tau00 at 8:00 am IST w/ Sun 29Lib35; the (masculine) Sun reached 00Sco00:00 at 6:00 pm IST. Therefore, their Sun-Moon blend may be Sun Lib-Moon Ari (unlikely – too early in the day), Sun Lib-Moon Tau, or Sun Sco-Moon Tau.

Sunset is a popular hour to wed and it occurred at 5:47:27 pm IST in Jaipur, India with Sun 29Lib59 (just before entering Scorpio, sign of sex and procreation – is a baby on the way?), and Moon 5Tau04. As you know, the Moon is exalted in Taurus indicating a very sensual nature that adores life’s creature comforts. (Think ‘Bill Clinton’s natal Moon’! Moon = the reigning need, and a Taurus Moon often gives a person the oomph for garnering many lovely possessions and..well, money.)

So here are the Images for Integration for the two combinations along with a smidgeon of extra details for each – and remembering that relationship-oriented Libra is an outgoing, action-oriented Cardinal sign while sexy Scorpio and Taurus are rigid and inflexible Fixed signs which may give stubbornness and/or longevity to their relationship:

Sun Lib-Moon Tau (Air-Earth = innovative, efficient, supportive, scientific, rational): “Newlyweds go on a gourmet tour of Italy for their honeymoon”… (India and the Maldives actually!)…”A lecture on ancient Greek architecture and town planning.”

Home and family are central to the happiness of the Sun Lib-Moon Tau blend for it shows a deep need for affection and harmony. Romantic escapades may abound until the perfect mate is found, then devoted and steadfast love is enjoyed. There is a refined aesthetic sense and an abiding faith in the power of love.

Sun Sco-Moon Tau (Water-Earth = a practical, supportive, and nourishing combo which may temd to view change as threatening; relationships bring out its devotional, domestic, and gentle nature): concern for others, sensuality and self-control; quiet strength and determination; cares deeply about loved ones and may be possessive with an all-or-nothing attitude.

“Images for Integration: Pluto takes Persephone into the Underworld…A celebrated surgeon amasses a fortune…A successful businessman probes the mysteries of life.”

(Sun Sign-Moon Sign, Charles and Suzi Harvey.)

Also in Scorpio: Mercury (vows), Venus (love and affection – but Venus is Rx), and Mars (sex and desire); the Moon is across the horoscope from the Scorpio line-up in also-lusty Taurus.)

Well, to me it seems the Sun Sco-Moon Tau’s ‘Pluto and Persephone’ reference could be an accurate description for the Perry-Brand partnership yet I prefer the Sun Lib-Moon Tau blend for its “newlyweds” reference and its optimistic, romantic, and “abiding faith in the power of love”!

And yet…Mr. Brand does have those intense Scorpio eyes and seems quite a Pluto sort of fellow, doesn’t he? And wealthy Pluto rules the world’s riches which a lovely Taurean Moon can well appreciate.

So what do you think, lone reader? Naturally, if you should run across the actual time of their wedding ceremony – or a reference to ‘sunset’, that sort of thing – I hope you’ll let me know by leaving a comment here and I’ll update this post.

Paris Hilton in cocaine arrest 8.28.10

There’s been celebrity shenanigans in Las Vegas of a serious kind!

Paris Hilton was arrested in a Las Vegas drug incident when the vehicle she was riding in proved positive for cocaine after being stopped by police because of what appeared to be a certain type of smoke wafting from the car.

Ms. Hilton was released on her own recognizance and promises to return to face charges. (Like that’s going to happen but who knows?) Hilton has been noticed before by law authorities for smoking marijuana, something that most people have smoked by now with few, if any, ill effects; alcohol is a problem as well.

Another drug incident for Ms. Hilton has given this mom astrologer some concern for the young lady so I had a peek at her Sun-to-Mc natal chart (birth time unknown; Sun @ Mc can indicate fame or notoriety.)

Here’s an image of her Sun-to-MC chart:

Born in NYC on February 17, 1981, the 29-year-old celebrity will have a Saturn Return in early October 2010, a time when life gets more serious, one ‘grows up’, and accountability and responsibility are required, often by society, in order to evolve to the next stage in a stable way.

Will this most recent drug arrest be a catalyst for her owning up to Saturn’s requirements and lessons?

Saturn is strong in PH’s chart for as you see, there’s a business-oriented Jupiter/Saturn conjunction in Airy Libra, sign of Partnerships. This gives her enormous potential for success which is only aided, obviously, by her family’s long-standing wealth.

Jup/Sat conjunctions indicate an eagerness to assert oneself in the world but much work is needed to reach one’s goals. We see this in Hilton’s perfumery business, TV career, and other enterprises perhaps not yet revealed to the public. (No, I’m not counting such things as the sex tape that garnered her much notoriety.)

In business, she may not take many chances with Jup/Sat conjunct, yet little effort is wasted in nonproductive projects. A retentive memory is a plus of this conjunction but one wonders if overuse of drugs will eventually interfere with that ability since overdoing is her most persistent problem for it causes physical exhaustion and depletion (adrenals.)

You see her deeply intelligent Sun/Mercury conjunction in Airy, mental Aquarius so I hope she soon figures out what she’s doing to herself with taskmaster Saturn about to be very active in October. Last night’s arrest is part of this process.

Looking for drug-related factors is the chart is quite an easy task:

Neptune in Sagittarius, ruled by expansive Jupiter, inclines her to excess in the Neptune-ruled ‘negative escapism’ realms of life. Mars (our desire nature planet) is in dreamy Pisces, ruled by Jupiter, co-ruled by Neptune. Murky motivations and deceptive males are often part of the picture with Mars in confused Pisces.

South Node 10AQ55 is a point where our talents and the behavior we fall back on in times of stress may be found; Hilton’s SN has two asteroids where energy is being drained from her psyche: Bacchus is associated with wine, grapes, orgies, creative frenzy, and the theater arts. As you know, Bacchus was the Roman god of wine (Bacchanalia); the asteroid was discovered in 1977 by astronomer Charles Kowal, the discoverer of Chiron (also in 1977.)

Having Bacchus on SN may also describe an inherited (SN) tendency toward drinking and other negative escapist activities. Complicating the picture upon her SN is the presence of asteroid Nemesis (‘the unbeatable foe’; ‘divine retribution’) so drug use may be a thorny issue to solve. Better to try during a Saturn Return when reality is clearer and thus easier for a partying young lady to appreciate.

Natal Chiron 13Tau45 is conjunct Fixed Star Menkar: ‘a victim of the unconscious’ which adds fuel to her SN/unconscious/inherited tendencies with astrological Chiron describing her Wound or Blindspot. In Venus-ruled, sensual Taurus this means a crisis concerning one’s values such as what’s right or wrong, permanent or temporary; plus, this placement indicates issues with materialism.

Unconscious habits are the hardest to break, aren’t they? For we must first identify our demons in order to vanquish them. They don’t call it ‘demon alcohol’ for nothing.

But back to Hilton’s creative yet problematic Mars in Pisces and its connections with Jupiter and Neptune. This Piscean Mars gives her life a danger of abuse from those who would capitalize on her easy going nature and a willingness to serve others and it is my personal belief that Paris Hilton’s awareness of this facet of her personality could allow her more discrimination in her choice of whose vehicle she chooses to ride high in.

In blue, you may notice I’ve highlighted a double crisis pattern – YODs – which point toward n Mars and which have midpoint pictures we may wish to consider:

Jupiter/NN = Mars: successful cooperation and teamwork; a happy partnership; engagement.

Saturn/NN = Mars: a desire to gain release from emotional depression; suffering through others; enforced separation.

The YODs, which are not dependent on a correct time of birth, greatly increase her Piscean Mars issues and bring crises into her life by way of her relationships with her parents (NN = mom; Jupiter and Saturn are both significators for dad) and with males (Mars.)

But cocaine is not the answer and only increases one’s problems.

Then there’s her Sun square Uranus which can give her an eccentric nature, unprincipled behavior, self-willedness, and a strong desire for power. Authority issues prevail! Arrogance and an assumption of being ‘above the rules’ makes her socially at odds with anyone who dares challenge her. She may demand subservience from others, then lose respect for them when they submit. Outlook adjustments are needed if emotional satisfaction is wanted especially with natal Moon in applause-seeking Leo.

And Mercury square Uranus?

Uh oh! This aspect gives eccentric thinking and behavior yet a bright intelligence; her opinions are often dramatically at odds with society’s prevailing beliefs and standards. Bypassing logic is a caution, extreme impatience is in evidence, and there’s a tendency to refuse taking responsibility for what she says (Mercury = thinking and communication; Uranus = the rebel; the genius; behavior – she behaves as a Jupiter-ruled Sag.)

A Merc/Uran square also gives an inability to compromise in relationships which tends to keep them of short duration (but I’ve not kept up with her list of paramours or friends – is it long?) and staying keyed up for long periods of time causes (again, as above) nervous exhaustion. And with her energy force, Mars, placed in dissolving Pisces, the tendency toward ‘burn-out’ is echoed or magnified.

What I’m saying basically, is that Paris Hilton, like the rest of us, does not possess a bottomless pit of life energy and my maternal side sincerely hopes that she soon figures this out for herself for it’s the only way Her Willfulness will listen and protect herself.

Now here is a link to the AstroDataBank chart w/ bio details but with her given birth time in question (C rating) I didn’t use it in the above analysis; a Sagittarian Ascendant (and Neptune is in Sag) will be noted which would strengthen natal Jupiter in Venus-ruled Libra, sign of beauty – and Rx Jupiter can be quite the maverick – yet here tamped down, perhaps, by serious Saturn’s close presence!

Paris Hilton.

More astro-analysis of Amy Winehouse

Some time ago I posted in brief on the natal chart of Amy Winehouse but with the singer’s birth time unknown.

Now it’s Marina to the rescue! For today I’ve discovered a more in-depth analysis of Winehouse’s chart including info on her relationship with Blake at Funk Astrology which I highly recommend to you.

Marina has spent the time and worked up a terrific rectification of the singer’s natal chart so that an astro-picture of Amy Winehouse is more in focus, and you may just wish to check out her revised chart details which use timed events in the singer’s life.

The Office: Jim and Pam’s baby born Mar 4, 2010

Congratulations are in order!

Last evening, if you were watching The Office, you know that a small bundle of joy was born to characters Jim and Pam after much comic stalling by Pam who really didn’t want to go to the hospital at all.

Been there, felt that way! But newborn babies can’t wait, so, by my observance, the blessed event occurred at 9:30 pm est, and I’ve set baby Cecilia Marie’s natal chart for Scranton, PA. (chart not shown.)

With a late Libra Ascendant, this young lady will be attractive and her Sun Pisces/Moon Scorpio blend (Water-Water) indicates a strongly intuitive nature, rich imagination, and a talent for psychological insight but with a tendency toward stubbornness. Perhaps she’s an artist like her mother (who stubbornly refused to go to the hospital)!

She (if she actually existed) will be very passionate and interested in what’s under the surface. Strong and intense, Cecilia will be able to see through to anyone’s motives and will embrace the tragi-comedy facets of life in similar fashion to her imaginary parents on show.

She’ll have tenacity, an interest in sensationalist topics, and a love of spending time on her own though she may tend to subjectively rely too heavily on personal opinion in making decisions.

There are two ‘Images for Integration’ given for the Sun Pisc/Moon Scor blend:

“Longfellow’s poem ‘The Secret of the Sea’…Steinbeck’s novel ‘The Grapes of Wrath.’ ” (‘Sun Sign-Moon Sign’ Chas & Suzi Harvey.)

Hmm…’The Grapes of Wrath’? Well, little Ceclia was born during a time very similar in nature to the Great Depression era, wasn’t she?

But her Sun/Moon trine (0A27) may see her through with grace and style – along with a very feisty out-of-bounds Mars Rx in Leo at Midheaven – so close to his Direct Station on March 10!

Alec Baldwin April 3, 1958

An actor on one of my favorite comedy shows ’30 Rock’, Alec Baldwin, has been expressing his views for some time over at Huffington Post.

Below is a link to one from Friday Feb 6 in which Mr. Baldwin calls for Tim Geithner’s resignation from the Treasurey Dept, demands that Hank Paulson’s use of TARP money be investigated and that he be prosecuted for fraud, and sends a message to John McCain to ‘shut up’ – his political career is over.

Whew! that’s a lot of direction from an actor, isn’t it?

Born in Massapequa, New York on April 3, 1958, Alec Baldwin would have had to be born between midnight and 12:54 am est on that date to have natal Moon in Earthy, modest Virgo. So I suspect his natal Moon sign is Airy Libra, don’t you?

Now I half expected to see a planet or two out-of-bounds in his natal chart given the actor’s extreme professional success and his rather brazenly expressed views, but not so.

There is an interesting midpoint picture (not dependent on an exact birth time) relating to society (Jupiter and Saturn) and power (Pluto)

Saturn-Pluto = Jupiter (28Lib26 Rx): religious or social fanaticism; plainness and simplicity.

Plus, natal retrograde Jupiter is a ‘maverick’ signature – and he does express himself in gung-ho fashion.

Mr. Baldwin’s planetary combo of Jupiter and Neptune, who together make up the ‘speculator duo’ is on his Nodal axis…

Jupiter-Neptune = NN: associations with swindlers and speculators; placing false hopes on ones associations.

And perhaps his Sun-Moon blend is of interest…

Sun Ari-Moon Lib: independence vs dependence; head vs heart; ebullient sociability and charming hospitality; idealism and hopefulness; capacity to inspire optimism; artistic imagination and talents; naturally romantic and devoted in  heroic proportions; chivalrous; an almost childlike desire for social involvement; eager for life.

Negatives may include: tendency to think great guns then peter out; letting frustration eat up confidence; need for appreciation can fuel vanity rather than creativity; vacillation; resting on laurels when new strides should be made.

‘Image for Integration:  A conductor leads an orchestra with passionate conviction and a vibrant, pulsating organism of musical perfection is created to the ecstatic uplifting of the audience.’ (‘Sun Sign-Moon Sign’ by Chas & Suzi Harvey.)

This Sun-Moon blend is shared by several other entertainers:

Pearl Bailey, Jean Paul Belmondo, Richard Chamberlain, Shirley Jones, Julian Lennon, Simone Signoret, Gloria Swanson, and Jack Webb (‘Dragnet’.)

Also with Sun Ari-Moon Lib: Wilbur Wright of Wright Bros fame, and essayist-journalist William Hazlitt, who said so aptly that:

“The love of freedom is the love of others; the love of power is the love of ourselves.”

You’d think America – and Washington DC – had that down by now.

“There are two lasting bequests we can give our children: One is roots, the other is wings.” Teaching children values and giving them the opportunity to excel is essential to good parenting. However, I feel I must also provide my children (and myself) insight into the ones who came before us: our ancestors whose lives and stories have shaped us into who we are. This is my journey; these are their stories…
