Wise words from JFK and General MacArthur
It’s a surprise to me to discover that the first quote was uttered by General Douglas MacAruthur. The second quote from JFK is familiar to most people and I hereby cop to having the same sentiments:
“It is part of the general pattern of misguided policy that our country is now geared to an arms economy which was bred in an artificually induced psychosis of war hysteria and nurtured upon an incessant propaganda of fear.” – General Douglas MacArthur, Speech, May 15, 1951
“…if by a liberal they mean someone who looks ahead and not behind, someone who welcomes new ideas without rigid reactions, someone who cares about the welfare of the people – their health, their housing, their schools, their jobs, their civil rights, their civil liberties…if that is what they mean by a “liberal” then I am proud to be a liberal. “ – John F.Kennedy
So am I.
Yet they’re still whipping things into a state of war hysteria and practicing ‘an incessant propaganda of fear’ to this day! And sadly for the economy and future of America, their tactics work.
Will the American people ever wake up to and resist how Washington works against our best interests?

hi jude, just found this blog – pleasant surprise!
you’ve highlighted some iconic figures here. all three assassinated (if you can count what truman did to the general). although macarthur was a hero of mine, and we’ve had our share of military presidents, they probably don’t make the best civilian leaders (except washington, who thoroughly hated the job).
wasn’t gen. doug fired because he wanted to nuke china? …and kennedy got us into vietnam, and almost into a a nuclear war over cuba.
i’m sure not into witchcraft, s&m, or schoolgirl porn…(uh, well, maybe that), but jeez, o’donnell is really getting roasted for typical adolescent behavior.
meanwhile, the liberals’ dope-smoking, cheating, lying, cigar munching (freud would love that), absolutely shameless, and almost impeached poster child “bubba” clinton is still, adored, and i couldn’t tell you for what.
right-wingers are the “spartans” in this country, on a diet of pig’s blood and vinegar. coulter walks into a lion’s den everytime she gives a speech on campus, and palin will be hard as nails in two years with all the abuse she lives with. liberals should be scared, very scared.
did i stuff enough keywords into this comment? thanks for the post. love your Stars over Washington!

Hi there, glad you found me on WordPress where i sneak off to once in a while when not blogging on SO’W!
Yes, i seem to remember that the firing of MacArthur was related to China. He didn’t see eye to eye with Truman on many things, if i remember correctly. MacA’s rep isn’t stellar with me – nothing like – but i thought his words were applicable to some of the current goings-on in Washington.
Funny that right-wingers are ‘spartan’ yet the GOP is signified by rich man Jupiter w/ Dems as the more restrictive Saturnians. Odd, isn’t it? Perhaps it points to the fact that the biggest differences between them have to do with the ‘ego games with important consequences’ which they continue to play over our heads and which come first with them way-y-y before doing the people’s business that they are sent to DC to facilitate. And of course, the Democratic Party formed before the current incarnation of the Republican Party so the Ds are older.
Thanks for commenting, though i don’t know what to call you, astro girl! Jude
