Rachel Carson and the grunions of California

Did you know that Rachel Carson, whose book, Silent Spring, is still widely read today even as the chem and plastics industries continue poisoning us unfettered, is a topic on a nifty blog?  http://rcbookclub.blogspot.com  is excellent for the environmentalists among us.

Carson had a particular fascination for grunions, those little shimmery fish that spawn so romantically upon California beaches–possibly inspired by moonlight. Okay, maybe not romantically, but who am I to say what’s romantic for a grunion? Toss in a beach and some magical moonlight and who knows what might happen?

 Breaksea cod

Image is one of my renderings from  http://dreamyfishart.blogspot.com

where you’ll find a gallery of very fishy portraits, an armadillo walking under a pond from my ‘Pattillo Armadillo and the Dream of Green’ children’s book, and a few mermaids sprinkled about the place.

And Dreamyfish Art is very proud to be a link partner with the Agora Gallery, NYC,  in their Nature and Wildlife category.

Today’s Weather Report:

Georgia is under severe drought conditions but we had a rainstorm this morning which is still drizzling as I type. But the sun will be peeking out this afternoon and steaming things up once again. More rain, please!

Anyway, the portrait you see here is one of my personal favorites from my Dreamyfish series, a sassy little Breaksea cod of Western Australia. You find him ensnared within  dreamy surroundings of his choice….because fish dream, too, you know!

“There are two lasting bequests we can give our children: One is roots, the other is wings.” Teaching children values and giving them the opportunity to excel is essential to good parenting. However, I feel I must also provide my children (and myself) insight into the ones who came before us: our ancestors whose lives and stories have shaped us into who we are. This is my journey; these are their stories…
