A “Frankenstorm” Full Moon and a Scorpio Solar Eclipse
Astro-Notes of Autumn 2012
by Jude Cowell
Well, the colors of the leaves in Georgia had turned nicely but now most have been swept from the trees by this week’s stormy winds. Prior to Hurricane/Cyclone Sandy’s landfall on the East Coast, I posted a few words about it in relation to the Full Moon in Taurus which perfected Monday afternoon, October 29, 2012, and added its influence to the high tides.
But there may also be ‘Sandy’ significance in the horoscope of the November 13, 2012 Solar Eclipse in water sign Scorpio if one wishes to find it. Here’s an image of the horoscope set for Washington DC–click the ‘Scorpio’ link to read my astro-notes on this Water-Water eclipse:
As you know, “Water-Water” refers to the sign element of the Sun and Moon which are, of course, conjunct during a solar eclipse. This blend of elements is on the feeling-intuitive-imagination level (double Water) and indicates a period when emotions are deep–such as when your home and/or business is flooded away or washed out to sea–and folks become nostalgic about the past. It’s a gut-wrenching time, folks, and my heart goes out to my northern neighbors.
With double Scorpio, clearly reasoned arguments and objectivity may be missing from the collective mood just now which interferes with political choices and confusing (on purpose!) campaign ads but hopefully early voting may have aided with the difficulty. See Storm Boosts Early Voting Turnout in Parts of Ohio.
Yes, a Solar Eclipse in Mars-Pluto-ruled Scorpio is considered karmic (by which I mean, reaping what was sown) and involves such things as intense desires, lack of compromise on strong convictions, sarcasm, jealousy, astute perceptions, loyalty v betrayal, suspicion, cynicism, and zeal for the truth. And yes, death, which has come to victims of Sandy’s wrath. (See SE horoscope’s 8th house with both Mars and Pluto posited there.)
Even the Oct 29th Full Moon horoscope shows potential for loss of life with Mars and Jupiter Angular in the chart (set for D.C. where President Obama returned to monitor storm operations which he has done exceedingly well, last I heard.)
Well, the month of November is always a Scorpionic season, it’s true, but this year the Full Moon in Taurus–with Sun in Scorpio–and the within-range of Sandy (two weeks time frame) Solar Eclipse–have brought intense Scorpio energies more to the front burner than anyone could possibly like. #
Update 11.1.12: the horoscope with details has just been published concerning the Gemini Lunar Eclipse of November 28, 2012, if you’re interested. jc
9/11′s 10th anniversary: Sun Virgo-Moon Pisces
As remembrances of those killed in the attacks of 9/11/01 proceed in New York City, Washington DC, and Shanksville, PA (held yesterday), a description of today’s Sun-Moon blend seems to me to denote a deeply cosmic sense of the events of 2001 which inspire the events of 9.11.11.
As you know, the Virgo-Pisces polarity is what is known as the Victim-Savior axis of the Zodiac and the Earth (Vir)-Water (Pis) combo of energies tells of compassion, inspiration, dedicated service, and a devotional nature.
There is a humanitarian urge to serve others and the larger good, a trait that first responders embodied so well on that morning. The Image for Integration may be applicable for today as well:
“A peasant rests in the wheat field, and shares his bread, cheese, wine and wisdom with the hungry labourers.”
A friend recently complained, “How can God have crashed planes into those buildings?” And all I could think of was how that was God inside those buildings and on the planes. And He knows a lot about sacrifice and loss.
Well, you may be interested in a perspective from afar concerning today’s 9/11 remembrances published a few minutes ago in The India Times.
May all be safe and find the peace they seek.

“The love of life is necessary to the vigorous prosecution of any undertaking.”
New and Full Moons of May 2011
Well, the month of May has begun surprisingly with the alleged raid and kill of Osama bin Laden in Pakistan by US Special Forces undercover of the dark of the Moon phase. It’s all over the news since late last evening – you can’t miss it and aren’t meant to. (If this is a political scam, wonder who came up with the ‘buried at sea’ excuse which should be good for many scoffings d’amusement from late-night comedians!)
Meanwhile, there’s a New Moon 12Tau30 on May 3rd and a Full Moon on May 17th @ 26Sco13. Let’s consider the Earth-Earth Sun Tau-Moon Tau of the New Moon and the Full Moon’s Earth-Water Sun Tau-Moon Sco blends for May 2011.
Sun Tau-Moon Tau tends toward sensuality v self-control issues yet is practical and unflappable with a miscievous sense of humor and an explosive temper. It seeks certainties (which reminds me of bin Laden’s DNA evidence which was suppsedly ‘taken’ yet could have been taken years ago when he was being trained by our CIA); security is also a deep concern for this pragmatic combo of energies.
Passionate hatreds, stubborn rigidity, and possessiveness are the negative traits. Sun Tau-Moon Tau is shared natally by Karl Marx who is well-known for saying, “From each according to his ability, to each according to his need.” (This conveniently leaves out who’s at the top and decides these things for everyone else.)
The Sun Tau-Moon Sco blend of the May 17th Full Moon adds Scorpio intensity to the mix. It retains the famous Taurean stubbornness, passion, and posessiveness while adding intense creativity, independence, and egotism. This blend does not have an inferiority complex! Instincts for self-preservation are high, and a powerful fighting spirit lies within.
The combo describes something of a bon viveur with big appetites and people intuit that it’s best to have those with this energy as an ally rather than an enemy. Scorpio brings in the primeval life force and this combo can be generous one minute, very demanding the next.
Sun Tau-Moon Sco is the natal blend of President Harry Truman who instructively remarked, “If you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen.”
Whether you choose to remain in the kitchen or not, you’ll find more info concerning the May 3 New Moon and May 17 Full Moon of 2011 by accepting my cordial invitation to view both Horoscopes set for Washington DC along with details such as Sabian Symbols, aspects, and more at Stars Over Washington where I regularly peek at squirmy Politics through the useful lens of Astrology.

ps: BBC News is now reporting that the US does have photos of bin Laden. How releasing them will play across the globe is anyone’s guess.

Summer Solstice 2011: Sun Cancer-Moon Pisces
Well, it’s a Water-Water Sun-Moon blend coming up for Summer Solstice 2011 and further natural disasters cannot be ruled out and may definitely include more water-related concerns.
Click above to visit Stars Over Washington where I’ve just published the Summer Solstice 2011 Horoscope with its Political Astrology details. The chart shown is set for the White House; it’s an Hour of Jupiter, posited in 8th house of Shared Resources, Credit, Debt, and Transformation which points to our nation’s current deficit, debt limit, and budgetary issues as they continue into Summer 2011.
More details are included in the post.
A Water-Water combo may easily go misty with emotion and dissolve into tears (reminds me of John Boehner!) and is sentimental and nostalgic about the past. In Politics (which SO’W is all about), it indicates the wetness of compassion rather than the dry doctrinal purity we’re seeing in Washington from the Ayn Rand acolytes such as Paul Ryan and Eric Cantor (and Alan Greenspan, one of the primary architects of our financial misery.)
Water-Water blends also describe those of a ‘wet blanket’ temperament and I, for one, would prefer to see compassion for those in need finally take precedence in Washington over the cold-hearted ones now touting an increase of austerity for the poor and middle class while the rich get an easier ride than ever. Toss the wet blanket over the Ayn Rand-ers, I say! And yet you may disagree if you wish.
Summer Days, Watery Ways
Summer 2011 begins with Sun Cancer-Moon Pisces which is an interesting combo of energies having Moon/Jupiter and Moon/Neptune implications (for me, Pisces is ruled by Jupiter and backed by the higher octave influence of Neptune which adds to inflationary concerns.)
Yet this is an affable, kind-hearted, sensitive, romantic, and whimsical blend but with a tendency to ‘blow with the wind’ a little more than we may wish during these trying days. Yet it contains an uncanny (Cancer) insight into other people and a capacity for speaking encouraging words to those who need them.
The Arts may be on display more than usual this summer, plus, issues of adaptability and diplomacy take center stage. Negatively, there may be suspicion of other people’s motives, a wallowing in self-doubt, and a proneness toward putting people on pedestals (such as Ayn Rand?)
Relating successfully to others may be difficult due to a fear of being hurt or fooled, and daydreaming will be prevalent (most effectively channeled into art or music projects, and/or social services.)
The Sun Cancer-Moon Pisces blend’s “Images for Integration: An artist teaches recuperating patients to paint the images of their dreams in soft water colours…A lone sailboat offshore at sunset…Ol’ man river, he just keeps rolling along’…The musicals of Rodgers and Hammerstein.”
(Sun Sign-Moon Sign, Charles and Suzi Harvey.)
The Sun Cancer-Moon Pisces combination appears in the natal chart of author Herman Hesse who instructively said, “If you hate a person, you hate something in him that is part of yourself. What isn’t part of ourselves doesn’t disturb us.”
Now isn’t that a perfect reminder for us all – politicians and partisans definitely included – as Campaign 2012 heats up our Summer of 2011?
An Astro-Profile of Prince William and Kate
April 29, 2011 will soon arrive with a royal wedding in tow and having just read an excellent astro-profile of both Prince William and his fiance Kate Middleton, I thought you might be interested.
Written by Alex Miller of Daykeeper Journal, Wills and Kate is full of info on each of them along with links between their natal planets and Black Holes (which Alex specializes in.)
And in case you missed it, you may also wish to check out Prince William’s and Kate’s Wedding Day Astrology Report which uses the positions of Sun (male) and Moon (female) on April 29, 2011 to determine a few of the more prominent facets of their partnership.
A Royal Wedding Day Astrology Report: Prince William and Kate!
With April 29, 2011 the date of Prince William’s and Kate Middleton’s wedding day, I have published as a Page in this blog’s sidebar a Wedding Day Astrology Report concerning the happy couple’s Spring nuptials which will describe some of the basic dynamics of their partnership.
For as you know, Sun and Moon in a horoscope are descriptive of the male (Sun) and female (Moon) principles and the midpoint between the two luminaries indicates ‘marriage.’ Well, it’s two luminaries for certain as their royal wedding day has been declared a public holiday in England with all the attendant trappings of publicity!
Their Wedding Day horoscope is shown on the Page for I thought you might wish to see royal Jupiter conjunct Midheaven, one of the signs of a ruling monarch with Saturn at Mc being the other sign (Queen Elizabeth has Saturn in Scorpio @ Mc.)
Plus, in case you missed it, do check out DarkStar Astrology’s column on the royal couple’s engagement horoscope (announced November 17, 2010) which links you to the natal charts of Prince William (June 21, 1982 9:03 pm BST London) and Kate Middleton (Jan 9, 1982 hour unknown.)
Both Prince William and Kate are 28 years old, the age of one’s Saturn Return when becoming more serious about the future is the required response.
So check the sidebar of Pages or click a direct link to the Wedding Day Astrology Report: Prince William and Kate Middleton and leave your on-topic comments with this post, if you wish.

Moon in Taurus, Assange freed, and John Milton 12-16-10
Well, WikiLeaks’ Julian Assange will be freed on bail today or tomorrow and won’t have to spend Christmas in a Victorain-era prison, and astrologer Julie Demboski takes a look at what’s going on over our noggins today, December 16, 2010, with the Moon leaving Aries behind and happy to be exalted in Taurus. Julie writes on today’s Material Consequences in and from Pacific Time so be sure to catch up with her insightful analysis.
Mercury Rx in early Capricorn continues backing up toward Sagittarius and will be crossing the threshold of ’30Sag’ soon, the “The Pope Blessing the Faithful” degree (and I’m sure he does) as the planet of negotiations, messages, and The Mind leaves Pluto’s Cap neighborhood for a while but soon to reunite.
Today’s Sun Sag-Moon Tau blend is a Fire-Earth ‘scorched earth’ combination of energies which holds entrenched beliefs, has much self-confidence, and exhibits extravagant tastes. It loves pleasant surroundings and familiar faces and is a ‘practical philosopher’ blend that loves to know all the facts and has a tendency to let others pick up the bill…kind of like the richest 2% taking public dole from the new tax cut deal between Mr. Obama and the GOP – which makes the rich richer and the poor poorer.
No kudos for you on this one, Washington, for you’re still up to the same old class warfare tricks so favored by the plutocratic combo of Pluto/Chiron, here in our US oligarchy.
Of course, the transiting Pluto/Chiron midpoint is on the Midheaven Point (Goal) of the Inauguration 2009 horoscope so the Obama-GOP collusion against the disenfranchised is no big surprise here.
Speaking of finances, you may find today’s Images for Integration for Sun Sag-Moon Tau of interest: “A pirate ship searches for gold…An armchair traveller roughs out a financial plan for his next adventure.”
(Sun Sign-Moon Sign, Charles & Suzi Harvey.)
This blend is shared natally by the great John Milton who wrote the following which reminds me of a man sitting in a Victorian-era prison cell:
“A mind not to be changed by place or time.
The mind is its own place, and in itself
Can make a Heaven of Hell, a Hell of Heaven.”
