Space Weather News for June 5, 2012
TRANSIT OF VENUS: The historic 2012 Transit of Venus commences today, June 5th, at 3:09 pm Pacific Daylight Time (22:09 UT). Spaceweather.com is covering the event with observing tips, a real-time photo gallery, and links to live webcasts from around the world. Extraordinary photos of Venus taken during the hours leading up to the transit are also featured on today’s edition of SpaceWeather News.
SOLAR WIND: A stream of high-speed solar wind is buffeting Earth’s magnetic field, stirring geomagnetic activity around the poles. NOAA forecasters estimate a better-than-even chance of high-latitude geomagnetic storms during the next 24 hours.
Fabulous! Thanks, SpaceWeather.

Now astrologers are accustomed to speaking of the Dragon’s Head and Dragon’s Tail to describe the Nodal axis of the Moon (Head = North Node, Tail = South Node) and in Western Astrology, we denote the NN to be ‘Jupiterian’ and associative, with the SN as ‘Saturnian’ and separative. There’s more to it than that, of course, but there’s the astro-gist.
Guess that’s why a minute ago it caught my attention that SpaceX’s capsule is called ‘Dragon’ and a ‘Rendezvous’ resonates perfectly with the ‘meetings/encounters’ effect of the North Node!
Space Weather News for May 24, 2012
DRAGON RENDEZVOUS: As SpaceX’s Dragon capsule approaches the International Space Station for a historic docking on May 25th, amateur astronomers have been taking pictures of the two spaceships converging. Their photos and more information about the Dragon-ISS rendezvous are highlighted on today’s edition of SpaceWeather News.
Checking a horoscope for May 25, 2012, NN 5Sag04 with the Dragon’s Tail (SN) conjunct the Sun @ 4-5 Gemini (which places NN conjunct Earth.) Plus, Sagittarius is ruled by expansive Jupiter who loves to explore and discover.
Now as you know, Air sign Gemini is one of the ‘travel’ signs and rules communications of all sorts. When Sun conjoins SN (a karmic condition where what is sowed will be reaped), we find limits (SN/Saturn) to one’s power potential (Sun), and possibly a denial of the fruits of one’s efforts; ambition may be thwarted by the actions of others.
However, there may also be evident a complete mastery of whatever one has opportunity to command so hopefully the Dragon-ISS docking will experience the second condition on May 25th rather than the first!
May 5/6, 2012: A Celestial Heads-Up Weekend!
Space Weather News for May 3, 2012
Earth is entering a stream of debris from Halley’s Comet, source of the annual eta Aquarid meteor shower. The shower peaks this weekend on May 5th and 6th. Glare from a perigee full Moon–a “Super Moon”–will interfere with the display. Nevertheless, observers especially in the southern hemisphere could still see dozens of meteors during the hours before local sunrise on May 6th.
More information about the shower and live audio from a meteor radar may be found on SpaceWeather.com.
An intriguing perigee Moon, the closest to Earth of any 2012 ‘SuperMoon’, as named by expert astrologer Richard Nolle, and debris from Halley’s Comet make this weekend cosmically eventful for all earthlings of the stardust persuasion!
Plus, if you’re like me, you always think of Mark Twain when there’s any mention of Halley’s Comet since he was born during one of the comet’s close encounters with Earth and the author-journalist’s death was timed by the next sighting as he himself predicted!
But as an ace storyteller, Twain (Samuel Clemons) was known to exaggerate a smidgeon when it suited. To quote him on the topic, “I came in with Halley’s Comet in 1835. It is coming again next year (1910), and I expect to go out with it. It will be the greatest disappointment of my life if I don’t go out with Halley’s Comet. The Almighty has said, no doubt: “Now here are these two unaccountable freaks; they came in together, they must go out together.”

Additionally, if you can manage a little Political Astrology (written in English!), you may wish to check out my post May 5, 2012 Scorpio Full Moon w 00Cap Rising which is a significant, critical degree on the Cardinal axis of World Manifestation and which peeks over the horizon when the Full Moon horoscope is exact and set for Washington DC. Capricorn rising makes controlling manager Saturn the chart-ruler so there’s that astrological factor to consider as well and you’ll remember that powerful, spying, wealth-hoarding, and transformative Pluto was the most recent outer planet to cross the 00Cap00 point.
Also, if you click you’ll find a linked path to a wonderful May 5 Full Moon analysis written by Depali Desai–her not-to-be-missed article is very interesting reading by the light of any super-sized Full Moon you can spy in the heavens above!
It’s a cosmic weekend everyone!
Space Weather News for April 21, 2012
LYRID METEOR SHOWER: The annual Lyrid meteor shower peaks this weekend on the night of April 21-22 when Earth passes through a stream of debris from ancient Comet Thatcher. Usually the shower is mild (10-20 meteors per hour) but unmapped filaments of dust in the comet’s tail sometimes trigger outbursts ten times stronger.
This year’s peak coincides with a new Moon, so lunar interference will not be a problem. The promise of a good display has prompted NASA to plan an unusual 3D meteor photography experiment combining observations from the ground, a research balloon, and the International Space Station.
More information, observing tips, and live audio from a meteor radar are available on today’s edition of http://SpaceWeather.com
As yes, the Dark of the Moon is a great time for sky watching for the New Moon on April 21, 2012 perfects at 3:18 am EDT at 1 Taurus 35…’2Tau’ = “An Electrical Storm” so wherever you are there may be Uranian bolts lighting up the clouds!
You’ll find New Moon info and Political Astrology, too, at Stars Over Washington if you so wish:

Well, I knew about today’s New Moon in Pisces, of course, but how cosmic and cool is this?
Space Weather News for Feb. 21, 2012
SOLAR ECLIPSE FROM SPACE: Earlier today the new Moon passed in front of the sun, producing a solar eclipse visible from space. High-resolution images of the event captured by NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory are featured on the Feb. 21st edition of SpaceWeather News.
Check out a few astro-details I’ve posted concerning today’s New Moon @ 3Pis42, exact at 5:34 pm est with Regulus Rising in Washington DC. As you know, Regulus is one of the Royal Stars of Persia with one major caution: success if revenge is avoided–too bad over-reaching Washington and the Pentagon seldom if ever take such good advice.

Y’all keep looking up on January 15 and 16, okay?
Space Weather News for Jan. 5, 2012
MARS PROBE PHOTOGRAPHED: Phobos-Grunt, a Russian Mars probe stuck in Earth orbit since November, is sinking back into the atmosphere. Best estimates suggest re-entry will occur on Jan. 15th or 16th. Meanwhile, citizen scientists can see the probe moving through the night sky sometimes shining as brightly as a first-magnitude star.
French astrophotographer Thierry Legault recently photographed Phobos-Grunt through a 14-inch telescope, revealing its outlines and perhaps a clue as to why the probe has had difficulty communicating with Earth.
His images and video are highlighted on today’s edition of SpaceWeather News.
Astro-Note: well, yes, I know that the words and description of “Phobos-Grunt, the Mars probe” “re-entering” Earth’s atmosphere is astrologically replete (‘pregnant’?) with vast amounts of testosterone-laden symbology but considering that the glyph for Mars is a circle sporting a ‘sexy’ arrow, this is to be expected, at least on a sophomoric level, right?
Yet who can mention Mars when studying Political Astrology without noting the Mars ‘god of war’, quarrelling, shooter, activism, instigation (ex: arson), rioting, and protest associations?
Not I, said the reluctant astrologer!
Well, apparently today the US Congress acted in time to avoid a shutdown of the US government tonight at midnight so that we the people can avoid being extinguished for a while longer–we survived our own ‘solar plunge’ in spite of the massives egos operating and battling for control on Capitol Hill.
The horoscope for that hour and date tonight set for DC shows US natal Neptune 22Vig25 rising, and as you know, Virgo is the sign of Work, Service (including military and police), and Health; plus, the stars of Virgo are very important to the cosmic founding of America and our Ceres-Venus-Columba-goddess archetypes and obsessions (ex: Statue of Liberty.)
Consider Fixed Star Denebola, now @ 22Virgo: keywords: ‘to go against society; against the mainstream’ which seems to me to be just what politicians are conspiring to do when they fiddle faddle around and neglect the creation of employment opportunities and programs that could put Americans back to work and which would help boost the US economy.
Instead we get such frothiness as light bulb efficiency regulations and reaffirmation of our national motto even though it was reaffirmed as recently as 2002.
Yes, it’s time and dime wasting on Capitol Hill! And of course, transit Neptune @ 28AQ is still within orb of US natal Moon (we-the-people) which brought us floods, fraud, and home foreclosures with the resulting homelessness, sense of rootlessness, and loss.
Besides, any chart with Neptune rising describes unstable and/or deceptive conditions so with a rising spiritual, idealistic, and inspired yet confused Neptune, planet of fraud, dissolution, oil-gas-water, and poisons, I hope the megabus bill passed today doesn’t have what’s called “poison pills” hidden secretly in Neptunian fashion within its 2,300 pages.
And with President Obama’s natal Mars (motivation; desire nature; energy ;action principle) veiled by US natal Neptune, can we depend on Mr. Obama to veto what the majority of us don’t want such as indefinite detention? Doubtful–also a Neptunian word.
Anyway, here’s a SpaceWeather News update for you about a comet that avoided being extinguished in spite of all the Sun could do:
Space Weather News Dec 16, 2011
SUNGRAZING COMET SURVIVES: Sungrazing Comet Lovejoy has confounded the experts and survived its close encounter with the sun. Last night, NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory recorded amazing movies of the comet entering and exiting the sun’s atmosphere.
Comet Lovejoy’s scorched remnant is now receding from the sun in full view of the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory. Visit SpaceWeather.com for the latest movies and discussion.

And from one blogger, here’s a very special message:
Welcome Home to All US Soldiers!
Austerity cuts by the David Cameron government in the UK are part of youthful tempers stormily flaring in the streets, riots, and destruction and some astrologers (such as myself) relate the As Above, So Below tenet of Traditional Astrology to what’s occuring on Earth as reflected all around us in the celestial sphere:
Space Weather News for August 9, 2011
X-FLARE: This morning at 0805 UT, sunspot 1263 produced an X7-class solar flare–so far the most powerful flare of new Solar Cycle 24. The brunt of the explosion was not Earth directed. Even so, a minor solar proton storm is in progress around our planet, and the flare also created waves of ionization in Earth’s upper atmosphere.
Visit Space Weather News for images and more information.
Additionally, Fed chairman Ben Bernanke is scheduled to speak today at 2:15 pm edt and you may be interested in my astro-notes (sans horoscope image) now published at Stars Over Washington for your consideration. Hint: Mercury Rx (announcements, etc) opposes inspired or fraudulent Neptune with both at critical-crisis 29th degrees.
Guess I thought you’d want to know:
Space Weather News for July 27, 2011
BIG SUNSPOTS: After more than a week of quiet, solar activity is picking up with the emergence of two large sunspot groups on the sun’s northeastern limb. The active regions are crackling with C- and M-class solar flares.
So far none of the eruptions has been squarely Earth directed, but that could change in the days ahead as solar rotation turns the sunspots to face our planet.
Visit Space Weather News for images and more information.
SUNSPOT TELESCOPE: Explore Scientific’s White Light Solar Observing System is perfect for monitoring large sunspots (and small ones too) and it is now available in the Space Weather Store.
Space Weather News for April 3, 2011
DEEP SKY AURORAS: A solar wind stream hit Earth’s magnetic field over the weekend, sending a wave of “deep sky auroras” over northern-tier US states. The lights were pale-white or even invisible to the naked eye, but digital cameras revealed spectacular colors and luminous shapes above Wisconsin, Michigan, Minnesota, and elsewhere.
